There are various different types of Alien Units, with each type being described on an Alien Profile card (sometimes also called an Alien Unit card). The Alien Types available in the Chronicle X core box are:
The TWILIGHT AT AREA 51 Expansion adds another type:
The ABYSS Expansion adds two more types:
In addition to that, a number of additional types are added via separate add-ons that just add one or two more Alien Types.
Alien Unit
For the Alien Forces, a central concept is the Alien Unit. While Alien Models can move and attack individually, they can often increase their combat power by moving together as an Alien Unit.
Alien Units can only be composed as described on Alien Profile cards (in the upper right corner), which is either up to a certain number of the same one Alien Type, or one Model of one Alien Type together with up to a certain number of another Alien Type. The number of members specified for the Alien Unit is the maximum number; an Alien Unit can have fewer than the specified number of members.
The main advantages of moving an Alien Unit together are:
- that they can combine their Combat Values, while the target only gets to use the same Defence Value as if it were attacked by a single Alien Model, and
- that it is enough if one Alien Model in the unit has Line of Sight in order for the whole Alien Unit to have Line of Sight to its target.
