Hero Dials

The Hero Dials refer to three changeable stats tracked on the Hero Dials Board, which is a separate cardboard component for each Hero. It contains five stats:

The Health stat is manually spun up or down using the gear teeth sticking out below the board, which causes two of the other stats to change; however, which two other stats it is that changes is different for different Heroes.

Health, Movement Value, Melee Attack Value and Defence Value are single numbers, while the Shoot Attack Range and Values are two pairs of two numbers, Range and Dice Value. The upper one, with lower Range value, is the "short range" Shoot Attack, and the other one is the "long range" Shoot Attack.

The changeable stats are marked so that the starting stats (max Health) are marked with red/orange backgrounds, while the other values have a more pale "old paper yellow" colour.

Note: various effects and abilities can increase or decrease the values from the values on the dials, but the value cannot be reduced to less than 1. (In some cases, it can be 0 from the start, though.)

Note: problem with slipping/misaligned gears

The originally delivered Core Box from the Kickstarter Wave 1 shipping had manufacturing quality issues that meant many copies of the game had their Hero Dials Board, both the board itself and the cardboard gears that attached to them, made of too thin cardboard, which could often make the gears slip so one of the other stats wouldn't change as it should when the Health was adjusted. In the Wave 2 shipment, Archon Studio included component upgrades for this, with new Hero Dials Boards for the Core Box Heroes. Those upgrades were located below the foam insert in the Stretch Goals Box.

The upgraded Hero Dials Boards largely solved the problem with slipping gears, but it's still possible for gears to get out of sync with each other if they are incorrectly assembled, or if one of the plastic hubs holding the gears in place would pop open. If that happens, make sure to realign all the gears so the red/orange background of the starting values show in the holes in the front cardboard board when putting the gears back. That ensures the gears are in sync.

If you discover you've misassembled a Hero Dials Board, you can pop the plastic hubs open by carefully inserting a blunt table knife or other flat narrow object between the gear and the front cardboard board, and wiggle it slightly.

Hero

The term Hero refers to each of the characters played by the Hero Players. Each Hero has a Model and two boards: one Hero Profile Board (sometimes called Hero Profile Card) and one Hero Dials Board.

The Hero Profile Board contains the name, portrait, equipment icons and ability descriptions for the Hero, and also has a few areas where equipment, tokens and other stuff belonging to the Hero is placed. The abilities are described in three levels: the starter level, Level 1, and Level 2. Heroes go up to Level 1 when they have gained 5 Experience Points, and to Level 2 when the have gained another 7 Experience Points (meaning a total of 12).

The Hero Dials Board contains various numeric stats for the Hero; there are five such stats: Melee Value, Shoot Value, Health, Defence Value and Move Value. The Hero Dials Board, as the name suggests, contains dials that can be turned, changing some of the Hero's stats. However, only three of the stats change, while two remain fixed, and it varies between different Heroes which the two fixed stats are. However, the Health stat is variable for all Heros.
