The Work

Partia by Grobe is a suite for Viola d'Amore, Viola da Gamba and Basso Continuo, probably written around 1700. Nothing more is known about the piece or the composer. The manuscript is now preserved at Uppsala University Library, who gratiously provided the copy I have used for this edition. The manuscript number is IMHS 18:27.

This Edition

I have always tried to be as close to the original as possible. Editorial changes have been put above the staffs, or within parenthesis. Slashed figures in the continuo have been replaced with their flat/natural or sharp equivalents. All accidentals have been converted to modern standard. There are two available versions of the score and viola d'amore part. One is with normal notation, and the other with the original scordatura in the viola d'amore part that makes it easy to play for violinists. In two places, I have provided suggestions for missing beats and bars. See the preface for further information.
