The Work

Sonate à 2. 3. 4 è 5. Stromenti da Arco & Altri by Johann Rosenmüller consist of 12 sonatas for different settings with violins, violas, viola da gamba, bassoon and basso continuo. The 6 books, one for each part, were printed in Nürnberg 1682, and the sources I have used are facsimiles of a copy preserved at Musikbibliothek der Stadt Leipzig.

This Edition

I have always tried to be as close to the original as possible. Editorial changes have been put above the staffs, or within parenthesis. Slashed figures in the continuo have been replaced with their flat/natural or sharp equivalents. All accidentals (both in continuo and staffs) have been converted to modern standard. Tenor clef in the second viola part is printed as alto clef.
