Map Tile

Map Tiles make up the world map on the Game Board. Each Map Tile has six hex spaces on it, which each be Calm Sea, Rough Sea, Shipwreck, Enemy Ship Spawn, (Altar island, Unexplored island, Port island (marked by a banner with the Port's name).

Some game effects distinguish between sea spaces and land spaces; the Calm Sea, Rough Sea, Shipwreck and Enemy Spawn spaces count as sea spaces, and the others are land spaces. Note: when a Storm covers one or more spaces on the map, those spaces count as Storm spaces, which are a special kind of sea space, instead of what they were before they were covered by the Storm. If the Storm moves away, the spaces function as before again.

When the first player takes the first turn of the game, one Map Tile is placed for free. After that, Navigation Orders must be used to discover new Map Tiles.

The Map Tiles are grouped into three groups based on what Act they belong to. As part of the game setup, the Map Tiles are sorted into these groups, each group is shuffled, and then the tiles are places so the Act III tiles are on the bottom of the stack, the Act II in the middle, and the Act I tiles on top.

Sea space

Sea spaces are one of the two types of Map spaces on the Game Board world map; the other type is Land spaces. Sea spaces in turn come in four types: Calm Seas, Rough Seas, Shipwreck and Enemy Ship Spawn.

Calm Seas:

Rough Seas:

Shipwreck:

Enemy Ship Spawn:

The Enemy Ship Spawn space has no special effects in itself; as a Map Tile, it counts as a Calm Seas space.

Additionally, spaces covered by Storms also count as sea spaces, even if they were land spaces before they were covered by the Storm, and any action that was available on the covered space is no longer available until the Storm moves away.
