The Work

This is the cantata "Des Abends, Morgens und Mittags" by Johann Christoph Pezel. The piece is scored for three singers (Alto, Tenore and Basso), two viola d'amore, two violas, a viola di basso (viola da gamba), a violone and organ. The original manuscript was written in 1690 and is now preserved in Stadt- und Universitätsbibliothek Frankfurt am Main.

This Edition

The source used for this transcription is a copy of the original manuscript. I have always tried to be as close to the original as possible. Editorial changes have been put above the staffs, or within parenthesis. Slashed figures in the continuo have been replaced with their flat/natural or sharp equivalents. All accidentals and clefs have been converted to modern standard.
