QuickBar Herrgår'n

Sep 5th, 1996

Supermodel (UK)

UK band on Fire Records who have played a lot in Sweden lately. Fat, disted guitars with references to Stone Roses, Weezer and Sonic Youth ought to make this night worth to remember! Comment: Loved it! Somewhat like a mix between Teenage Fanclub and Pavement more than anything else.

Sep 12th, 1996

Baby Jesus

Hard hitting rock/pop kind of like Fireside but not exactly. Debut record out September 23rd on BMG. They were an amazingly good live band! Tight, great performance! Book 'em while you can!

Sep 19th, 1996

Nov 28th, 1996

Fivel

I'd say one of this year's best newcomers! Signed to NONS, and with a sound that melts the ice, or should I say, breakes the ice into small small pieces. Listen and learn!

Dec 5th, 1996

Baines

One of Magnus Kvist's favourites - should make the night a pleasant one.

Dec 12th, 1996

Standards

Tell me who hasn't heard of them, and I'll write a better description. They're signed to BMG. Last Herrgår'n live night before christmas!

Jan 16th, 1997

Smash Hit Wonders

Pop/Rock. They're back! Second time at Herrgår'n, but now with a debut album released. Definitely a night to book in your calendar.

Jan 23th, 1997

The Pusjkins

POP! Linköping's coolest popsters, with their debut album soon out on L-Style. My personal Linköping favourites, only second to Cloudberry Jam! And it is their second (or is it third?) time at Herrgår'n, though the first time as main act. Release-party the night after at Platens, so keep your pants on tonight and wait for the big guns tomorrow!

Jan 30th, 1997

Monster

SKA. Well, soon every SKA-band in Sweden has played at Herrgår'n... Don't be fooled! This is SKA, SKA, SKA, SKA...

Feb 6th, 1997

Archers Of Loaf (US) + Moonshake (UK)

US Lo-Fi rock stars + UK pop with a twist. You all know about Archers Of Loaf, so... Moonshake, hailing from various corners of Hackney (UK) was formed by Dave Callahan (ex-Wolfhounds) and Margaret Fielder in 1990. They released one very My Bloody Valentine influenced EP called "First" on Creation Records before moving on to Too Pure where they released two singles, the second one called "Secondhand Clothes", one album called "Eva Luna" (in October 1992) and one mini album called "Big Good Angel". After that, Fielder left to form the band Laika together with producer Guy Fixsen. The rest of the band (John Frenelt on bass and Mig on drums) continued and released another album called "The Sound Your Eyes Can Follow" (without any guitars at all) on Too Pure. Last year, the band released their latest album "Dirty And Divine" on World Domination Records. Callahan (vocals, guitar) has been described as sounding like a mix between early Nick Cave and John Lydon. I would also throw in a bit of Sultans Of Ping FC in that statement. When it comes to the music, I will leave it up to you to describe it.

Feb 13th, 1997

Gallon Drunk (UK)

Rock. This band has been around the small-venue scene in the UK for several years. Their CD "From The Heart of Town" sounds very very much like Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, and the band has been featured on MTV Europe's Alternative Nation several times. Some say they play folk-influenced pub rock. Some describe their sound as "a psychotic blues" where their biggest influence would be the Birthday Party. Then others say they sound something like Jon Spencer Blues Explosion meets the Evil Superstars. There. A long description for once, thanks to cool people on the Scandinavian Indie Mailing List.

Feb 20th, 1997

Speaker

POP! Finally! Speakerrrr is here. It was just a matter of time before ex-Green would re-appear on Herrgår'n's stage, but this time, you can bet your pants on a long, cold queue, so be there early! (Stockholm)

Feb 27th, 1997

The Wellmeant + Coach Bob

POP! If you are a subscriber to the Scandinavian Indie mailing list, you know. If not, just be prepared for a night with The Sundays/Stereloab/My Bloody Valentine bliss + three ex-Suredo members' new band! Both unsigned (which I can't understand), and both will make you cry and scream for more.

Mar 6th, 1997

Nine

HC. Harcore like you've never heard it before! From Linköping as a matter of fact. They go on tour with Entombed in a couple of days - that should tell you something... (Startracks/Luger/HOK)

Mar 13th, 1997

POP! Lomma stars with a new album just out. There's really no need for a description here. If you have the Rock The Nation card: 40 SEK, if not: 60 SEK. (Vibrafon/Motor/MD)

Mar 20th, 1997

Dipper, The Mopeds, Three Blind Mice

POP! The Vibrafon Records tour hits Herrgår'n with these nothing but fantastic new bands, all with new albums, singles, EPs and whatnot recently released. (Vibrafon/Motor/MD)

Mar 27th, 1997

Apr 24th, 1997

Starmarket + Ceasar's Palace

HC-POP! Starmarket's second time at Herrgår'n, and third time in Linköping (second time this year even!) and now with their second album "Sunday's Worst Enemy" out, which is totally brilliant! A harder Sugar/Husker Du one might say? Well, they'll sure kick ass tonight, as usual! (Dolores/Luger/MD)

May 1st, 1997

nothing

May 8th, 1997

This Perfect Day

POP! Released their latest, and long awaited album "C-60" on February 24th, and we've been waiting for them to perform here for a long time as well. This night is special and outdoors! (Soap/Motor/MD)

May 15th, 1997

Honey Is Cool

POP! Honey Is Cool kicked Backyard Babies out of the place and grabbed the date! Back for the second time at Herrgår'n, and this time with their debut full-length out and hot! Prepare for some inventive and perhaps a bit irregular pop with several twists. (MVG)

May 22nd, 1997

Loosegoats + Phone

Lo-fi! Loosegoats - Sweden's absolute and definite lo-fi kings are back at Herrgår'n! Their second time, but this time with their debut album released and a massive following! When you see them perform tonight, you'll understand why. (Startracks/Luger/House of Kicks)

May 29th, 1997

Carpe Wade

POP! Well, they have changed their sound a lot since they last visited Herrgår'n back in October 1994. From Hardcore to pure and beautiful guitar-filled pop. Latest album "Odd Man Out" released on March 24th. (A West Side Fabrication)

Jun 5th, 1997

Bad Cash Quartet

POP! Silverbullet cancelled due to the Beavis & Butthead Movie tour, and Bad Cash Quartet came instead.

Sep 4th, 1997 Fireside + J Church (US) HEC/POP! What to say? Fireside who are Sweden's hard/emo/core kings release their third album on monday, and tonight we're going to hear a bunch of these new fantastic songs. Fireside back at HG for the second (?) time. J Church from the US mixes pretty much everything from punk to dreamy pop, which means that no one knows what to expect until the gig is over. So you better go and see them too! Extra expensive night (30 SEK w/Rock The Nation card - 60 SEK without) but it's definitely worth it. (Startracks / BMG / House Of Kicks / Luger)

Sep 11th, 1997 Everfresh Local talent...

Sep 18th, 1997 Papas Fritas (US) (Zomba / Virgin / Luger)

Sep 25th, 1997 Chickenpox SKA Linköping's SKA pride is back at Herrgår'n again! Their third or fourth time even! This shows how popular they are, doesn't it?! (Burning Heart)

Oct 2nd, 1997 Samiam (US) + Shades Apart (US) EMO-CORE/PUNK Samiam, an American band, is actually signed to Burning Heart Records here in Sweden. The short version of the story goes like this: their previous label didn't like their new material but Burning Heart did. A couple of albums out (the latest on Burning Heart of course) and a bunch of gigs in Sweden (for example at the Hultsfred Festival in July this year) and they're all set for success in this country. The press say that they sound like "a more mature Fireside", but I don't agree. They have a way bigger sound, are loads and loads more relaxed, but the emo-core genre still applies. You can listen to their whole previous album on the web by the way (in RealAudio, shitty sample rate but you can still listen to it if you know what I mean) - just use a search engine and look for it (can't remember the address on top of my head right now). Shades Apart is another story. I actually don't know much of it, but they have released an album on Revelation (Quicksand have too...), and from what I understand, they're more punk than emo-core. Perhaps emo-core + punk = hardcore? That's probably it. Haven't found any soundclips with them on the web so it's hard to say. (Burning Heart / MD / Luger), (Revelation / Border / Luger)

Oct 9th, 1997 Backfish POP! Just imagine a big portion of guitar bliss, vocals similar to Juliana Hatfield, A West Side Fabrication, appearences on a few compilations, a couple of singles/EPs and an album (produced by yes-yes-you-know-who) out, and you have Backfish in a box. There's a lengthy story about this band, from the start up til today, but I'm not going to tell it - you better search through the Scandinavian Indie web pages if you're interested. It's far too long to recite. Didn't like what Mr. Stringfellow did with the band on the album much, though I love everything else they've done. (A West Side Fabrication / ??)

Oct 16th, 1997 Robot (Starboy Recordings / BMG)

Oct 21st, 1997 Darling Tour 97 POP! Our absolute favourites Fidget comes back to Herrgår'n together with tour friends Fivel, Loudean and also favourites Honeycave (see record labels in order below) because the webzine Darling celebrates the event of becoming a paper magazine by arranging a music tour. So why does this magazine "throw a tour"? I know, I can't figure it out either, but it doesn't matter when we're talking about these bands - we're just happy they're coming to play here! (Mega / NONS / MNW / Mega - Motor)

Oct 23rd, 1997 The Drowners (A West Side Fabrication / Motor)

Oct 30th, 1997 BOB (The Bobby Ewing Family) POP! Let's just say that you really should not miss this band. If you don't know who they are, please check out the Demo Reviews section now! See you tonight! (none / none)

Nov 6th, 1997 S.P.O.C.K (Subspace Communiactions / Motor)

Nov 13th, 1997 Him Kerosene (Telegram / Warner / Luger)

Nov 20th, 1997 Urban Turban (Silence / ??)

Nov 27th, 1997 Popstad 97 Tour POP! The Popstad 97 tour (Popstad 97 is Eskilstuna) comes to Linköping, and brings Cobolt, Kpist and Carpet People with it! Cobolt is a pretty new band with members Magnus Björklund (former member of Refused), Andreas Nilsson and Kristoffer Larsson. Their music is compared to Red House Painters, Codeine, Idaho, Slint etc. Full-length album "Eleven Storey Soul Departure" is out now. Kpist is also a new band, also consisting of three members, Anders Lind, Markus Kärnebro and Elias Warg, from Umeå, but their music is different. Heavy with references to dance music, rap and rock, it's pretty uncomparable to anything else. Debut album "Voltage Controlled" out 20/10. Carpet People can best be described as Sweden's very fine and own Dinosaur Jr, or something like that. Fantastic album "Volley U Make" out now and a new one planned for release in January next year. (Ampersand - NONS - NONS / Luger)

Dec 4th, 1997 Sick Things International (SF) ROCK They say this band is probably the best rock band in Finland right now. Released their second album "Oddjob" last year, and I haven't heard it yet, but their music is said to combine bits and pieces from bands like Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and Oasis. (MNW ILR / MD)

Dec 11th, 1997 Eagle Eye Cherry POP! Who has not heard the hit song "Save Tonight" - raise a hand. Right. No one. So you don't need a description either, right? Right. ;-) (Diesel / Superstudio / Motor)

Dec 12th, 1997 - January 14th, 1998 closed during christmas holidays

Jan 15th, 1998 Mazarine Street PROCKP! True, they aren't really playing pop, but they aren't just playing rock either, so PROCKP is a pretty good description if you ask me. Stockholmers with a hell of a stage show, two albums and a bunch of singles and EPs out. Latest album "Thirteen Reasons To Believe" was released on November 14th last year, and it's their best one. Should be a great start at Herrgår'n '98. (Fine Tone / Skrikhult)

Jan 22nd, 1998 Popsicle POP! Yup - you got it. Weeping Willows cancelled, but on the other hand we got Popsicle instead. Their latest album, "Stand Up And Testify", the important fourth, is actually Popsicle in their finest hour ever since Lacquer. So forget about their big egos for an hour and listen to the music instead. (Telegram / Motor)

Jan 29th, 1998 Cloudberry Jam POP! Yes yes yes! Our beloved Cloudberry Jam are back at Herrgår'n - I believe it's their 6th time, but this time they're back with a new album. "The Impossible Shuffle" was released on January 25th - that's four days ago! Have you bought it yet? If not, I'm sure you'll be able to tonight. Be prepared for sooth-smooching and jazz-breeze pop to the limit! (NONS / Luger)

Feb 5th, 1998 A-Bombs ROCK! Heavy rock of the best class. With members from Robots and Dismember among others, you ought to know what you're in for this evening. (Ouside Society / House of Kicks / Skrikhult)

Feb 12th, 1998 Stacks POP! Latest signing on Startracks. Female vocals and sticky but still glimmering guitars places their sound in the summer pop genre. Pretty good actually. First chance to see them play live here, and probably a name we're going to see in this summer's festival line-ups. (Startracks / tba) Feb 19th, 1998 The Mopeds POP! The roaming-about happy-go-lucky popsters The Mopeds are back for the second time at Herrgår'n. And with their new album The Hills Are Alive... released only about a month ago, we're in for a whole batch of guitar-pop-breezy new songs which will make us all jump of joy. (Vibrafon / Motor) Feb 26th, 1998 Weeping Willows ROCK! Finally we get to see the band that makes grown men cry (sic). I haven't heard more than two-three songs with them myself, but from what I understand, they're more of a classic rock band than anything else. (Grand Recordings / Virgin / Luger)

Mar 5th, 1998 Backyard Babies + Space Age Baby Jane ROCK! Backyard Babies was formed at a high school in Nässjö in 1987. Started out playing glam rock, but soon enough headed for punk rock. Today they are one of Sweden's most smashing dirty rock bands, which all of you know already. :) Space Age Baby Jane from Borlänge on the other hand went straight to classic rock in the backwaters of Big Star and Cheap Trick. Glittering melodies in a box full of rock. (MVG / Motor + Telegram / Luger)

Mar 12th, 1998 Incka POP! "Intoxicating feminine pop with acidous harmonies and a certain cynical edge" and "again she wants to confront us with her light but explosive voice and right-on-lyrics". Well, that's what her record label tells us... (Bolero / EMA Telstar)

Mar 19th, 1998 Trés Nooners POP!"They changed their article for a start, from The to TrŠs via Vhe, Zhe and Theu, one for each of their four self produced tapes. They gained an ardent following and quite a reputaton from a string of semi-legendary live shows, sometimes bordering on performance art. And they landed a record deal with new label L-Style from Linköping." Well, that's what the magazine Benno tells us. (L-Style / tba)

Mar 26th, 1998 Motorpsycho (N) POP!Since 1990, Motorpsycho has played almost everwhere, released numerous albums, EPs and singles, and changed their sound about as many times. During the last few years, they have continued to release records like "Blissard" (1996) and "Angels and Daemons at Play" (1997). Both records show the band from the indie rock side, but also introduce more experimental tunes together with a seventies vibe. The fan base continue to grow and will probably grow even more now that their latest album (actually a double CD / triple LP) called "Trust Us" (1998) has just been released. (Post gig note: This was definitely the *best* gig I've ever seen - kicks Verve's Hultsfred 1994 gig down to 2nd place on my list. If you have a chance to see this band - don't miss it!) (Startracks / House of Kicks / Luger)

Apr 2nd, 1998 Freewheel POP! Actually started several years ago, but found their fan base in Japan instead of Sweden. It was time to try out the Swedish audience again so they re-released their "Tribute To Lester Young" single, and here they are on a tour of Sweden. (Vibrafon / Motor)

Apr 9th, 1998 nothing n/a (xxx / xxx / xxx)

Apr 16th, 1998 nothing n/a (xxx / xxx / xxx)

Apr 23rd, 1998 Komeda POP! Komeda shouldn't be new to anyone reading these pages, right? Swinging jazzy pop with a world- wide fan base, latest album "What Makes It Go?" out a month ago - a fantastic one which actually has some rawking guitars (to my surprise, but a very pleasant surprise) here and there. This is the night you want to be at Herrgår'n early - it will be packed. (NONS / Luger)

Apr 30th, 1998 nothing nothing (xxx / xxx / xxx)

May 7th, 1998 Liberator SKA Summer Pub Premiere. If the weather allows - the concert is held outside! Liberator is probably Sweden's most distinguished ska band, and every gig means a fantastic party. That is a promise. (Burning Heart / Motor)

May 14th, 1998 Sobsister BARB WIRE POP! Edge-y, dazzling, adorable and rough on the edges pop is what Sobsister brings with them this night when nothing in the world can make me NOT go here! Released their debut album "Schlaraffenland" on Absurd Records on April 4th, and this album is so good you wouldn't believe it. Got 4 1/2 stars from Scandinavian Indie in fact. That's how good it is. Get it, and go see them tonight! (Absurd / Absurd)

May 21st, 1998 Skalatones SKA from Landskrona. "Anyone who has been to a Skalatones concert, knows what rude rhythms, skanking guitars and overwhelming stomping energy this 8 (sometimes 9!) rudies strong SKA orchestra can unleash when they ascend the stage." (Burning Heart / ???)

May 28th, 1998 Umajets (US) POP! with Jellyfish ex-member and bass player Tim Smith. After Jellyfish sadly split up, Tim went his own way and formed Umajets, but found the help from former members and mates Eric and Roger when recording the debut album "Demolotion" which was mixed by Shalom (Jellyfish live engineer) and released in 1996. Check out the link above for an extensive amount of soundclips. (Intrigue Music / Clearspot / Roligan / Motor)

June 4th, 1998 Bad Cash Quartet ROCK from Göteborg. Recently released their self titled debut album which is described as having "twelve teenage explosions almost and just tamed by producer Nille Perned". Can't say if I agree with the description personally, but from what I have heard on the radio (where they are played constantly these days) the band has evolved from previous years' meager attempts (IMO) to this which is is actually surprisingly good rock. (Telegram / Luger)

September 3rd, 1998 Fint Tillsammans tba Speed of Sound Enterprise were supposed to play but cancelled the day before. Instead bob hund labelmates Fint Tillsammans will play! Definitely worth seeing (and hearing) if you're into twisted Swedish pop! (Silence / Luger)

September 10th, 1998 The Extras (US) + Speak 714 (US) HC Actually I kind of missed these two. The bands were hardcore bands from the US who played at local venue Skylten the night before. So they stayed another day. Apparently it was really good too. *sob* (? / ?) + (Revelation / ?)

September 17th, 1998 Broder Daniel POP "The music is every bit as loud, distorted and abrasive as their attitude and few have the guts to see beyond the vocalist's weird attire to see their brilliant song writing skills, beautifully hurting lyrics and sheer popsensibility." That's what they said at least. These days they are a lot tighter (and better :-)). (Dolores / Luger / MNW)

September 24th, 1998 Monostar POP from Stockholm. Eric Palmqwist and his pals originating from Gotland (well, not Carl Silver, the bass player who comes from Stockholm, but the rest of 'em at least!) and formed under the name of Midnight Moses back around 1992. After realising what a dump Gotland is when it comes to recognising talent ("if you're not a cover band, you can't get any gigs") they moved to Stockholm. After a bunch of gigs around town and some negotiations with interested labels, Soap Records were the lucky ones. Smashing pop, played almost daily on Swedish National Radio Channel P3 and you may have seen a video on MTV a couple of times. First release - "The Ways To Bring You Down" CDEP released in 1997. Then the smash hit single "Speed Your Love" early 1998 with their debut album "The Airport" released a few weeks later. The latest release is the new chartbuster single "Jee Is a Loser". (Soap / Motor)

October 1st, 1998 The Pang POP The Pang comes like a bullet from Lund. They play powerful melancholic guitar-based rock. Line-up - Guitar and vocals: Mattias Friberg, Guitar: Mathias Olden, Bass Mårten Dahl and Drums: Rasmus Liedbergius. (xxx / xxx / xxx)

October 8th, 1998 The Bear Quartet POP Well, this is ... hmm, the BQ's third or fourth time at Herrgår'n - and no one is happier they come here (somewhat) often more than I am! Gorgeous soothing pop with Mr. Alkberg on edge-y vocals these days, compared to the rattling guitar pop of their past. No matter what, their new album "Personality Crisis" was released at the end of August, a new EP about a month ago, and now they are here. Man, is it really their seventh album in six years? Yummy... (A West Side Fabrication / ???)

October 15th, 1998 Gluecifer (N) ROCK They're packed up with everything you wanna hear if you stay true to the mean spirit of hard rock. "Play it loud, get pissed, respect the rock, and get laid!" (White Jazz / Motor)

October 22nd, 1998 Larry And The Lefthanded (SF) ROCK The Finnish meisters of screwy and twisted rock. That should be enough explanation. Go and see them! (Texicalli Records / House of Kicks / Skrikhult)

October 29th, 1998 Turpentines ROCK Dirty rock like you've never heard it before! Man, if you thought Backyard Babies or The Hellacopters played dirty smokin' rock, you have been kidding yourself. This is it! This is what you've been waiting for! Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if the whole venue has to be disinfected after this gig! (White Jazz / Skrikhult / House of Kicks)

November 5th, 1998 Neal Casal (US) + Easy POP + POP 26-year old Neal Casal from Denville (near New Jersey) is a small and discreet sensation. At least for those of us with records by artists like Jayhawks, Del Amitri and Tom Petty in our record collection. A soft and following voice to stripped and down-to-earth comp consisting of a hammond organ, acoustic guitars, steel guitar and mouth-organ. Or calm piano clinking. The center of it all rests on something as uncool as melodies and lyrics. And Neal Casal proves that this still can be enough. (AB)

Easy used to be Easy and one of the major players on the Swedish pop scene. Then they quit, only to turn up again about two years ago, under the name Fly. They couln't keep the name and had to find another one, and Easy was the easiest solution. Kind of retro pop, but in a big way. (Glitterhouse / MNW ILR / Skrikhult) + (Dolores / Luger)

November 12th, 1998 Lasse Lindh BALLAD POP Lasse Lindh previously played in the band Chevy, but is now here with his solo debut. A bit like Jakob Hellman they say. (EMI / Motor)

November 19th, 1998 Barusta POP/ROCK Yes! What a surprise! Barusta, who climbed straight to the top of my personal list of "albums of the year" with their recently released debut "Evolution", are actually playing here! Hammond, a pounding drive, dirty, 60's and disted guitars. Quite horribly brilliant and a dead certain all-time-favourite. If you miss this... well, then you're either abroad, or dead. (Starboy / Motor)

November 26th, 1998 Poverty Stinks (SF) POP This is naturally just what you need when the black swedish late autumn squeezes every meaning out of existance; summery, alert pop in same spirit as - among others - Phil Seymour, Rubinoos and The Jags. (AB) (Poko Records / MNW ILR / Skrikhult)

December 3rd, 1998 The Mopeds POP Eggstone-buddies who play naive, Pixies- related mods pop in a lo-fi-costume. The trio from Skåne sing about lizards and mopeds and join the pet celebration tradition where we can also find Neil Young and Torsson. (AB) (Vibrafon / Motor)

December 10th, 1998 Kooks POP Enough power, catchy chorus, but the vocals are horribly high-pitched, irritating and "smart". (? / ?)

January 21st, 1999 Kristofer Åström & Hidden Truck + The Facer COUNTRY POP & ROCK Discreet and moody singer/songwriter country pop of class A. Definitely worth seeing, and hearing, if you're used to the Fireside sound!

With the EP "King of Expectations" The Facer show how real rock n'roll should sound. Furthermore, they have made the greatest video of the year, to the title track. Watch it and realise that music does not always have to be so bloody serious. (Startracks / House of Kicks / Luger) + (Stockholm Records / Motor)

January 28th, 1999 Dead Starlet POP Camela Leierth and her bandmates are way melancholic on the debut album Passion For Unhappiness. Post-grunge, goth and rock'n'roll. Lyrics about pain, death and despair are woven in together with beautiful melodies that moves you. Listen to the strong "The Waltz" and you know what we mean. (MVG / Luger)

February 4th, 1999 Royal Beat Conspiracy POP This is simply Cry but under a new name and a few members short. The music is about the same, but they added a brass section and other extras. The obvious influences from Stooges, which could easily be found before, are gone. And maybe that's just as well, because this way, they're different, and will definitely be something to recon with on the music scene. (? / ?)

February 11th, 1999 LOK HC Everyone knows about LOK from Gothenburg. Their angry and funky hardcore in the school of Rage Against Machine is played a lot on radio stations around the country, and their debut album "Naked Blästrad Och Skitsur" is a big time smash hit. Bring a change of clothes, this will be rough! (Stockholm Records / Motor)

February 18th, 1999 Waterbug POP The first place on the list of bands I want to see now is dedicated to Waterbug from Gothenburg. The new album downright runs out of the speakers with the thread from the keyboard which starts off the first track, and also the first single, "My Friend in N.Y.C". A high energy kick which promises wonderful moments. And the greatest thing is - it does not lie. Many of you have already heard this well aimed back-heel on the radio. (A West Side Fabrication / ?)

February 25th, 1999 Yellow Fever SALSA "Ooooh la laaaa!" Cuba-rock'n'roll and what a swing! I put on my best finery with slits and float away across my living room floor in theatrical salsa moves on the parquet flooring." (SA) (Deaf & Dumb Records / Border / Jet Set)

March 4th, 1999 Elmer POP No idea. I can't go either so I'll leave it up to you to find more information about this band. (? / ?)

March 11th, 1999 The All Janet + Sahara Hotnights POP The All Janet are a bunch of good songwriters with a lot of love for the power combined with sweet melodies, strange harmonies and guitars as well. In short, a great rock act.

Sahara Hotnights is simply amazing. Saw them in Hultsfred two years ago and it was a let-down, mostly because the sound was horrible, but also because I had too high expectations from the start. Now, two years later, it's something else. The experience is showing, the talent grows out of their mouths, feet, fingers and eyes, and they have become one of the most promising acts in this country (if you ask me). Stunning. (A West Side Fabrication / ?)

March 18th, 1999 Coal Porters (UK) COUNTRY POP This is where Alternative, Country and Pop has taken us. That's right. Alternative Country Pop. Get used to it, because we'll see and hear a lot more of this flavor in the months to come. (Prima / Border / Skrikhult)

March 25th, 1999 The Makers (US) ROCK Alternative garage rock revival. That is definitely the best description of this band I have ever seen, because it's just so true. Almost like them old days with the Rolling Stones. But in a smaller setting of course. (Estrus / Import / Skrikhult)

April 8th, 1999 Rocket 99 POP/ROCK Stockholm based trio Rocket 99 delivers energy filled rock with smart choruses, with inspiration from MC5 and The Stooges. (Starboy / Motor)

April 15th, 1999 Grand Tone Music CANCELLED POP (MVG / Luger)

April 22nd, 1999 Loosegoats COUNTRY ROCK They're back! Third time around, and with a somewhat different sound. Before, they were rated Sweden's absolute and definite lo-fi kings. Now, they have gone Country Rock on us. I won't say it's either good or bad until I hear the new album "Plains, plateaus and mountains" (just out) and see them live, but these guys have never let me down. (Startracks / Luger)

April 29th, 1999 Sophia (UK) POP Sophia is the band former The God Machine singer/ guitarplayer Robin Proper-Sheppard formed in 1996. The band consists of members from different other bands like Ligament, Elevate, Unsophisticates, Swervedriver... (that last one should be enough to convince y'all to come and see this band tonight!) Noisy british sadness of american origin. Does that make sense? If bands like Nick Cave, Tindersticks, Walkabouts and Cowboy Junkies mean anything to you, you have a date tonight. (Flowershop Rec. / Exlibris / Motor)

May 6th, 1999 Caesar's Palace + Barusta OUTDOORS ROCK + ROCK/POP Retrospective psychedelic garage influences with vocals that feels a bit Liam Gallagher. Stooges, Sam The Sham & The Pharaohs, 13th Floor Elevators, The Kingsmen and The Mysterians in a steamy bath full of modern, high voltage pop energy.

Barusta's second time at Herrgår'n - and it was not long ago they were here either. I couldn't be happier, because this is seriously one of my all time favourite bands, even though they only have one album out. Psychedelic, firm and sweet pop goes from the 60's and ends in a clash of titans of rock in the 90's. You're not going to stay at home tonight either, are you? :-) (Dolores / Luger)

May 13th, 1999 Fidget + Yvonne + Heed SOLD OUT POP This concert is held at the Student Orchestra Festival (SOF). And I hope you bought your thursday ticket, because it sold out weeks and weeks ago. All three with new albums out recently (well, Yvonne's is due in a short while). One debut (Heed) and two long awaited favourites (we've waited two years... and we're HUNGRY!) Probably gig of the year (if it's not Sophia). (Starboy / Motor) + (Starboy / Motor) + (EMI / ?)

May 20th, 1999 Starmarket POP Extreme powerpoppers Starmarket are here again, and it's their third time. 1995, 1997 and now 1999. We're treated to two years of rest between their attacks (which is too long, if you ask me). "Starmarket combines pure poptunes with the energy of punk and hardcore and the result is not unique, but very necessary nowadays, when punk has gone metal and most pop bands don't understand the meaning of the word energy." is a pretty good description, though I wouldn't be so hard on pop... (Ampersand / ?)

May 27th, 1999 Honey Is Cool POP Honey Is Cool are back for the third time as well, and with a brand new self-released EP out and their new album "Early Morning Are You Working?" on the way in August. A different line-up from 1995 (and it was different again in 1997), but Karin Dreijer and Staffan Larsson are still going strong! If twisted pop with gorgeous vocals is your melody, this is it. (Rabid Records / Luger)

September 2nd, 1999 Hell On Wheels POP Sometimes very lo-fi, often very straightforward, some say they can be compared to the early Pixies. Lots of comparisons to Pavement. Played the demo scene at the Hultsfred festival this year, kinda weird cause they released stuff on Urinine in the US, but then again, that's not Sweden is it? Oh hell, disregard everything I said, and just Go and see them tonight. You won't be disappointed. (Urinine / x)

September 9th, 1999 The Nomads ROCK What is there to say about The Nomads? You all know they are the foundation of dirty rock in Sweden! The all-star rockers of our time. Garage legends. Well, that kinda sums it up pretty good. (White Jazz / Luger)

September 16th, 1999 Phone POP From Linköping no less. Well-known faces to the Herrgår'n crowd, former Cloudberry Jam-femme fatale Jennie Medin teams up with charmstress Anna Carlson and Mother Ice Dog tough-guy Jan "Auwa" Altsjö to create short, fast, ripping and smashing pop with quite a deal of a punk feel over them. Album already released in Japan on Quattro. (Quattro / x)

September 23rd, 1999 The Motorhomes POP These guys come from Jönköping and you have probably heard them a lot on the radio, if you have been listening to it the last year - year and a half. Won the "P3 Demo of the month" award (rightfully). Now they are signed to Sony, the debut album is recorded, they played at the Reading Festival in the UK last weekend in August and tonight we can expect glimmering guitars and soothing beautiful pop in the bigger sense. (Sony / Luger)

September 30th, 1999 Nicolai Dunger SINGER/SONGWRITER As of late working together with Soundtrack of Our Lives, which of course should raise an eyebrow or two out there. The deep, wide-ranged voice of Dunger is a perfect match for pretty much any kind of music. Whether it is jazz, rock, folk music or blues, and whether all of these are mixed together in a mystical and intimate way. You'll get a taste of it all at once if you decide to drop in at Herrgår'n tonight. (Dolores / Luger)

October 7th, 1999 The Pusjkins + The Facer ROCK See January 23rd, 1997 and January 21st, 1999 for descriptions. (Stockholm Rec. / Motor)

October 14th, 1999 Monster N/A Apparently no longer playing SKA I hear... See January 30th, 1997 for the old description, and go here tonight to get the new one. (Burning Heart / Luger)

October 21st, 1999 Llama Farmers (UK) POP/ROCK When the Llama Farmers first arrived, they were greeted with optomistic nods and winks and pushes in the right direction from the likes of NME and Melody Maker who were quick to place them in the 'big things of 99' category. In their luggage today, two fine singles, "Paper Eyes" and "Always Echoes" on Fierce Panda, singles "Big Wheels" and "Get The Keys And Go" together with their debut album "Dead Letter Chorus" on Beggars Banquet. What sets this apart from the pack of other angsty type guitar bands is the attutide that is conveyed into the music. Whereas Placebo look a tired bunch of self-assuming moaners, in comparison, the Llama Farmers lack the pretentious bubble that sadly cushions their compadres. (parts of the description borrowed from various sources on the net as I haven't heard these guys myself yet) (Beggars Banquet / Playground / Luger)

October 22nd, 1999 Venus Outback + Violet ROCK The club concept called Revolver hits HG tonight with two Swedish rock-acts (as mentioned above) together with DJs Pontus Djanaieff, Marcus Svanberg & Kalle Månsson. Projected exhibit with Filip Jensen from Denmark and Andrea Giacobbe from Italy. Borrowed from the website:

Venus Outback have the reputation of being one of the most exciting rock acts on the current Swedish music scene. They certainly don't pass by unnoticed as their 25 gigs and debut album 'Spiron Johd' testify to. Either you hate them or love them."We've been described as grotesque but at least we've pushed people into a reaction. We prefer a reaction rather than no opinion at all" says the front figure Pelle Ljungberg. Venus Outback have to be experienced live. Their show at the Hultsfred Festival this summer was jammed packed and they will be performing tracks from their newly released 'Spiron Johd' album.

Violet - So how would you describe them? David Bowie, Mott The Hoople, Abba or Manic Street Preachers. Well known references - some complimentary but Violet would prefer to see it as something daring and individual within the framework of something so established. The opening single 'Horse' from the forthcoming album showcases not only singer Jonny Johansson's melancholic voice but also a fantastic tune that could well see them smash the airwaves on TV and radio. The trio will showcase a number of songs with the addition of a keyboardist on the Revolver tour. Their debut album 'Freaks On Heavy Metal' is set for release in January 2000. (EMI / xxx)

October 28th, 1999 Yvonne POP Yvonne is back for the third time at Herrgår'n and with a brand new album called "True Love", released on October 1st, in their luggage. As I am writing this before it has been released, I can't really say what they sound like these days, but if the gig back in May hinted something, it was that they are back and even better than they ever were. Kind of amazing that it is possible, but there you have it. (BMG / Starboy / Motor)

November 4th, 1999 Weeping Willows POP/ROCK See February 26th, 1998. They Cancelled though. (Grand / Virgin / Luger)

November 11th, 1999 Bugsquad POP Soothing pop. Think of Sneaker Pimps, Portishead and Heed, and you get the idea. (? / ?)

November 18th, 1999 tba tba (tba / tba)

November 25th, 1999 Sahara Hotnights POP/ROCK Hurray! They're back already! Recently signed to BMG, extremely recently released their long long awaited debut album "C'mon Let's Pretend". If you missed them in March, here's your chance to see this powertrip again! See March 11th, 1999 for more. (BMG / Motor)

December 2nd, 1999 tba tba (tba / tba)

December 9th, 1999 Baxter TRIPHOP Nina Ramsby (ex-Salt) is back again at Herrgår'n with her more dance oriented urban trip hop band Baxter. Deep bass, low tunes, pretty beautiful if you ask me. Playing brand new, never played before songs tonight, which are sure to be a feast for the ears. (Primal / Luger)

December 16th, 1999 tba tba (tba / tba)

January 20th, 2000 Ingy POP info tba (Telegram / Warner / Skrikhult)
