Old texts are automatically removed by a process known as the garb. By default, the garb will remove all texts when it looks at them. There are several things that can save a text from removal:
dont-garbbit set. See See Aux-Item-Flags.
nicedays old, for any of the recipients.
niceis part of the
set-garb-nice. All recipient types,
bcc-recpt, counts. If the text was added to the conference after its creation, the check is made against the addition time instead of the creation time. See
keep-commentedfield of any of the recipients of the text and the comment/footnote, it is saved. All recipient types,

Other texts will be removed. It is an implementation detail of the server exactly when texts will be removed.
