I just discovered RARS, and downloaded MacRARS from the ftp site (ftp://ftp.ijs.com/rars/Mac) the other day and my first reaction on running it was "My, that's running awfully slow." And the machine I happened to be using is relatively fast. So I thought "I have source, why not make it faster?" It turns out that the drawing in the Mac version is grossly, awfully inefficient. I made some fairly minor revisions, and things are much better now, although still not as fast as they could be. I guess my question is, "Should I submit the revisions to someone, and if so, to whom?" There is still a lot that could be done, I just scratched the surface of possible optimizations. In fact, I'm loath to consider these changes optimizations; they're more like repairs. Not to slam whomever made the port in the first place (to his or her great credit, the problems were easy to find). On the other hand, it's possible I downloaded an old version (ver. 0.50 4/5/95). If that's true, where would I find a newer one? Thanks a bunch, and if no one cares, just ignore this message. I have the r0642_dj.zip file but the make file erros when I try and 'make all'... Any help would be appreciated.
