A rookie robot driver SmoothB entered the competition today. I would say it has a great potential, it is said to be a learning robot (not this version, though). Henning also submissed an improved version of H1-H4 quartet. Hennings cars were again stunningly quick in qualification. In race we had less trouble this time from slow-moving Grymc1, partly because of my innovations. Three of my cars were working as a team and two of them were programmed to 'kamikadze' driving style. If they see somebody on the track, they ask: Are you a Grymc1? and if yes, they are driving just into that car. I wouldn't use and don't suggest others to use this style against normal racing cars but the 26 mph-moving Grymc1 is a little different issue. Sorry, Steve. Three races were rather similar and typically H1 and H2 were getting big advantage for first 20 laps, but then they were unefficient and careful in lapping traffic and were passed by Jas, Magic, Apex1 and sometimes also by SmoothB and OscCar2. In second half of race things were decided by ability to keep damage low. Jas was again very fast overtaker, but risking too much and finished only once. Magic was not bad too. SmoothB was running well, but was simply unlucky to finish those hard races in heavy traffic. OscCar2 and Ralph2 were not fast, but their less risky driving style brought overall second and fourth place of phoenix race. Henning's robots are real good while driving alone, but obviously need more decisive overtaking alghoritm. BTW, it seems to me that many good bots crash only because they look ahead only for one closest car. They often crash in situation when they are following another car and second slow car is appearing in front of both. Download bexe0506.zip and see how your car performed! Overall results of todays race: Apex1 60 pts (Maido Remm) mremm@ebc.ee OscCar2 36 pts (Oscar Gustafsson) oscar@lysator.liu.se Magic 32 pts (Sebastian Tixier) s-tixi95@bat710.univ-lyon1.fr Ralph2 28 pts (Ralph Scott) ralph@alpha.netusa.net H2 25 pts (Henning Klaskala) bm321465@muenchen.org H1 24 pts (Henning Klaskala) Jas 22 pts (Jurgen Sang) jusa@darkstar.bb.bawue.de H4 20 pts (Henning Klaskala) H3 18 pts (Henning Klaskala) Grymb1 15 pts (Steve Metke) GryMor@cc.wwu.edu SmoothB 9 pts (Dennis Lew) av504@freenet.toronto.on.ca O1 8 pts (Oscar Gustafsson) Gryma1 5 pts (Steve Metke) Apex3 1 pts (Maido Remm) Apex5 0 pts (Maido Remm) Grymc1 0 pts (Steve Metke) I ran 10 unofficial races later with the same set of robots and the picture was similar. Only SmoothB usually finished better, even getting several wins. In overall BORS standings Ralph and Jurgen swapped their 2nd and 3rd position again. ========================================================================= SUBMISSIONS FOR NEXT RACE Next race is at Loudon, New Hampshire 1 mile oval. 3 races, 100 laps each, -s1 option. RARS version 0.65b, car size still 10x15 feets. Track is similar to mlwaukee but both 180 degree turns are split to half. The small straigth between those two curves can confuse some robots. According to BORS rules, if two more people will submit their first, second or third allowed robot (if not done that already), then Grymc1 will not qualify any more. The submission does not have to be much different from your previous robots, just different name will do. Submit any number of car source files to mremm@ebc.ee The deadline for submissions is 18th of June 8AM GMT. All robots that have been submitted so far will continue until removed or replaced by author. ========================================================================= RACE RESULTS All robots of this and following races are public. Download them at http://www.ebc.ee/~mremm/rars/rars.htm or ftp://ftp.ijs.com/incoming (bdrv0506.zip 17kb). If you have PC, you might want to download bexe0506.zip, which contains rars exe file for dos (168kb) and track file. Just type "rars - nr44541" and you will see more or less exactly what happened in the race (the repeat of race with the same random seed have sometimes given me a little different results!). All other variables are compiled into program as default. I could post drivers to the list or to anybody who wants it. QUALIFICATION 10 laps solo speed. The best of 2 attempts. 1. H2 94.17 mph 2.
