I'm interested and all but why do they keep posting... Anyway here I am in Chicago in an apartment with no AC... It's hot and humid... damn hot... I guess not as hot as texas though.... anyway last night... I'm rolling around in bed and my sheets are soaked and I don't want any part of me to touch any other part of me because it's uncomfortable... So I fall asleep and wake up every two hours... Go to the fridge grab out a bottle of water that I've been letting accumalate the essence of cold in the freezer... oh and it is SOOOOOO cold... pure bliss... stand in front of the fridge with the doors open and let that wonderful chemical frozen wash over me... can't sleep so I go to our back porch and sit on the couch... It seems like everbodies up tonight... the city is loud and lights are on in apartments everywhere... voices and cars are echoing in between the buildings... I put on some Slowdive and lay back and just listen... Everything is sticking to me... I just sweat... The air is thick and heavy... It's all blue and purple... and lights everywhere are twinkling cause of the heat... And somwhere in the middle of Melon Yellow I finally fall asleep. (it wasn't stamped as a promo copy).......... >> i believe the release date is the 28th (next tue)...maybe it was pushed up, or i heard wrong...i got my copy (with the bar code marked through) from caroline last week (along with a 12" vinyl sampler) for my radio show, which i'll be kicking off this week with 3 or 4 tracks from *owl*...later on, i hope to play the "down" remix back-to-back with "crazy for you" so people can hear the similarities...i know alan from low is a slowdive fan, and i think his favorite album of theirs might be *just for a day*, but don't quote me... jeff jeff ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Jul 1998 21:21:32 -0400 (EDT) From: professor plum Subject: Re: rachel similarities > is Gavin from Bush called a genius? Absolutley not! Is Brian > Eno - yes...are the Backstreet Boys? Absolutely not...I could go on, but I > won't... that wasn't my point! i did not say that all male musicians/musical figures were labelled geniuses. i said that the press or music fans are much more easily extend that label to men than to women. right now i cannot think of one woman commonly considered a musical genius. please don't caricature my argument by making it universal -- i never said that all men this, or all women that... rather it happens to be the case that women musician's sexuality are SO MUCH more often considered as a part of their worth than the opposite case. it just seems so self-evident to me. > When do someone's comments *don't* have a place? Who decides this? And > Why? This whole subject is rather infuriating... the very fact that we have something called "tact" and "proper manners" shows that we do indeed feel that some comments don't have a place. (in given situations of course.) infuriating? yes, it infuriates me every time i think about how when my dj friend elise goes shopping for used turntables, all she gets are smug smiles and chuckles or gets hit on. fuck that! ; e. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Jul 1998 22:42:47 -0400 From: Andrew McMillan Subject: [Fwd: who do you love review] Here's another review of the single along with an mpeg soundclip. http://www.live-wire.com/record-reviews/xframe/m/mojave-three/who-do-you-love.html ------------------------------ End of Avalyn Digest Vol.98 #108 ********************************
