(on self titled lp) how can i compete with this. beautiful. 2. gusgus: polymovie. (standard stuff...) the definitive version. 3. lovesliescrushing: every female werewolf... (pyewackit) guilty shoegazery pleasure... takes me back to '91/92... 4. massive attack: risingson. (mezzanine) forget liz, it's all about 3d on the new album. and that distorted sequence... 5. sweet trip: jellycharm. (halica) roby of sweet trip is the man. programming on this track is sooo nice. remixes? 6. siddal: mystery and the sea. (mystery and...) it grew on me. beautiful open space. it begs for beats, though. this track is one of the great lullabies... 7. trashcansinatras: safecracker. (a happy pocket) i could listen to this one 4 or 5 times in a row. sad, isn't it? 8. babybird: 45 and fat. (uglybeautiful) dodgy title, but one of the saddest and prettiest songs that i have ever heard. c-o-c-a-c-o-l-a goes the chorus. brilliant. 9. avenue: oceanliner. (dewdrops compilation) scanning through two discs full of 'dreampop' paid off. this track is rough, but sooo nice. great vocals and melody. don't know if they have an album, but someone should sign 'em if they aren't taken yet. 10. an april march: this is... (adagio e.p.) okay, it's the second bedazzled track on this list, you'd think i knew 'em or something... anyway, important to this list because anyone subscribed to this list that heard this song would want to buy the album... there you go, if you made it this far, thanks for indulging me. hell, i'd tape 'em for ya if you wanted, but you should definitely check 'em out. ryan. http://home.pacbell.net/cosboom home of 'halou' and 'anymore' ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Jul 1998 23:58:26 -0700 From: "daniel lee" Subject: Re: ten contemporary masterpieces... The unfortunate part is, we could have had a much better final it would seem: I'd have bet that, had it not been for penalty kicks [an absolute bane, if you ask me!] we'd have seen a different final match-up ... i.e., Netherlands vs. France ... But don't take my opinion on who has the better side; I direct you to the greatest footballer of all time. In the words of Pele, "Holland is the better side [than Brasil]." [Quoted the day before the Brasil-Netherlands Semi]. Anyway, what a story-book championship for France ... gosh, to be in France this week ... oh, how I would love that! :-) Paris in the Summertime and all the great celebration on top of it!!! Well, my condolences to the Brasil fans! :-) And, if there are any French on the list: congratulations!! :-) You were well past due for a 'Coupe' Championship! :-) love, Michael ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Jul 1998 00:13:11 EDT From: M242557sm@aol.com Subject: Re: SLOWDIVE POLL TO SENDER id have to say i think its great that brazil got crushed... serves them right.. i mean, they are good and all, but they probably went into that game with too much confidence.. congrats to france. =) shane. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 12 Jul 1998 23:37:41 -0500 (CDT) From: Jason Morehead <00161068@bigred.unl.edu> Subject: Re: ...and because. > album: pygmalion. i think, so far, i am the only one who picked this. this > is the most amazing, brilliant piece of art ever committed to tape. the end. i'd agree with you, as would several other slowdive fans i know. the other albums are incredible in their own right, but "pygmalion" saw them going off into some new directions that are just incredible. still one of my favorite and inspiring albums, even after listening to it countless times i find something new. ranks right up there w/ "loveless" for me. as for songs... "catch the breeze" (the song that got me hooked. the build-up at the final end just melts my heart.) "dagger" (reminds me of someone, a friend that i turned onto slowdive.) "melon yellow" (see above) "crazy for you", "blue skied an' clear", "all of us" (beautiful songs, proof that minimal and sparse music can be so overwhelming.) "cello" (a song that is too short, but if it was any longer would have been spoiled. i loved slowdive's use of cellos, and this song is the ultimate of that.) rambling... jason ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Jul 1998 08:33:09 +0000 From: "wade@tapehouse.com" Subject: Re: SLOWDIVE POLL At the moment: 1.40 Days 2.Song 2(not shine) 3.Machine gun 4.Avalyn 5.Alison Favorite album=Souvlaki wade ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Jul 1998 11:21:29 -0500 From: mandragora louvareen Subject: Re: ten contemporary masterpieces... Actually some of my favorite albums (Xuvetyn and Loveless) are similar to pygmalion because I see them as a whole instead of individual songs. To me, the best albums seem to be the ones where you don't necessarily fast-forward to your favorite songs as usually happens to me when listening to souvlaki (my 2nd favorite), but the ones where you start from the beginning and listen all the way through. dl ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Jul 1998 12:34:46 -0500 (CDT) From: cory <1cc5776@unixstew.tstc.edu> Subject: Re: Coupe le Monde (Soccer is irrelevant to this list) I can assure you, people on this list would much rather read a list of people's favorite Slowdive songs than this shit... which has nothing at all to do with Slowdive... these are the messages that people need to send privately... especially after Pplum's raving about not wanting to read list member's favorite songs. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Jul 1998 13:23:25 -0400 (EDT) From: Lorraine Lelis Subject: Re: SLOWDIVE POLL fave album... souvlaki ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Jul 1998 13:22:45 -0400 (EDT) From: Lorraine Lelis Subject: Re: SLOWDIVE POLL slowdive faves 1. slowdive 2. melon yellow 3. so tired 4. morningrise 5. in mind ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Jul 1998 14:43:04 PDT From: "john kupchik" Subject: mice gaze at the caseous moon many things... firstly, much to my HORROR, not a single soul included grimble grumble in their top ten's. this is absolutely mind boggling to me, considering this is a slowdive list and all, and they're the ONLY band to come close to slowdive's beauty (in my opinion)... second, here's my top NINE(five just would not do!) slowdive songs: 1-rutti 2-crazy for you 3-miranda 4-trellisaze 5-cello 6-j's heaven 7-visions of la 8-blue skied an' clear 9-all of us favorite album: hmmmm....if you don't know then please unsubscribe yourself from this list. thank you. thirdly, i love the 'who do you love' ep.listen to it every day. another ep in august? that's it. give grimble grumble a try.... john ------------------------------ End of Avalyn Digest Vol.98 #100 ********************************
