LN, Bloomsday. To all Slowdive/Mojave 3 fans.......some new stuff that I know you will all love. Group-Release-Label LN-Cool September Skys-Velvet Blue Music........sounds like Bark Psychosis meets Mojave 3 w/ Neil on vocals. Bloomsday-Bloomsday EP-Velvet Blue Music...............Emotional Vocals, Lush melodic guitars, Sounds somewhat simlilar to the Autumns. Actually.......The Autumns latest producer Andy Prickett helped engineer this EP. Both of these come with my highest recommendations.....I haven't heard any new music this good in a while. Another note.............Yes, Mogwai rules. Their song Tracy makes me want to melt. And Fear Satan is so epic. If any of you have LN or Bloomsday......please comment. justin ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 08 Jul 1998 00:58:50 +0200 From: Erik Soderstrom Subject: Top 10 - (in my ears currently) Okay then, I haven't gone through the 100's of messages waiting for me when I got back from my vacation from the list, but I gather there's a top-10 thread going on (I am *finally* formatting the digests - the latest 20 or so will be added to the archive later tonight), so here goes: 1. I mean, donovan isn't to tragic but is certainly movingly psychedelic ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Jul 1998 04:35:17 EDT From: Espsummer@aol.com Subject: julian cope it was refreshing to see julian cope in someone's top ten. I would have put him in mine but it just slipped my mind. He's not slowdive- like for sure, nevertheless he is on the far out spacey side.......more of a syd barrettish level. My favorite julian cope album has to be "Fried" from way back in 1984. He was also in a wonderful group called "the teardrop explodes" in the early 80s........ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Jul 1998 13:53:14 +0200 From: Jorge Palomar Subject: trembling blue stars + top10 >what do trembling blue stars sound like? w Hi: TBS is Bob Wratten. He used to lead The Field Mice -I love them!!- and Northern Picture Library. Both bands published most of their references in Sarah Records, so this could be a help. TBS have published two albums. "Her handwriting" -the first and best one- and "Lips that taste of tears", both in Shinkansen -the label run by Matt from Sarah R.- Their/his music is a kind of melancholic/sad tecno pop, some songs are terribly beautiful other can make a piece of wood smile.... Maybe The Magnetic Fields could be a band to compare with. I don't think suicide is a topic to talk about so naively. You could talk about depressing songs instead. People insist in finding most of these songs depresing. Beauty is what I find in them: Second Chance .- CODEINE Which will .- NICK DRAKE Half-hearted .- BRIGHTER 24 .- RED HOUSE PAINTERS Atmosphere .- JOY DIVISION Le plat pays .- JAQUES BREL All the umbrellas in London .- THE MAGNETIC FIELDS Columna de la independencia .-LABRADFORD Glory box .- PORTISHEAD Silver plane .- FELT Love Jorge ------------------------------ End of Avalyn Digest Vol.98 #97 ********************************
