What happend is that many of us on the MBV list have bands or musical projects. Daniel, from Clair de Leon, organized a comp CD. Projects paid $50 and got 3:30 of time on the CD. There were 20 slots. He's getting 500 CD's pressed, and each band gets 25 discs to seel or do whatever with. There may be an overpress, and then daniel may have some to sell. If not, there's 19 bands you can order it from;) later ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 May 1998 10:56:48 -0400 (EDT) From: mike p Subject: Re: Several Bands Galore > Funny, I haven't heard anything about this! As for Matts vocals..I think theyre really good...guy can sing, so what can you say? I mean its still shoegaze and you have to appreciate those bands who still keep the sound alive. So thats my 2 cents. Mescalhead... I can't believe I didn't >pick up on these guys before... WOW.. I dig em' alot... Yeah, Swervedriver a pretty cool. If you like Mezcal Head you should get their first album "Raise" which, in my opinion, is head and shoulders above "Mezcal head" but I only say that because I don't particularly like Mezcal Head... I tend to see it as a bit of a disappointment after Raise. Raise is much more psychadelic and spaced-out than their other efforts and, I think, the songwriting a lot more inspired, too. Their first 3 EP's are well worth checking out, too (if you can find them, that is)... Umm, ehhh, well, I LOVE swervedriver, every single note they put out, but Raise is by far not their psychedelic side. It's their rocking album, you can actually head-bang to parts. Of course it is beautiful. But I think the lps they will appeal most to people on this list are probably Mezcal Head and Ejector Seat Reservation (my personal fav). Never Lose that feeling/Never learn - an 11 minute song on the US release - is just so beautiful and spaced out, with this dreamy sax in there (the only song of theirs with a sax) it's mind blowing. The other big psychedelic song of theirs (well, its psychedelic alterna rock sorta, nothing AT ALL like the Dead nor Phish) is Duress and is also obn that album, mezcal head. Also, ALL of their singles have at times better songs on them, then some songs on the album. Though I have to admit, that my fav b-side is of the early three. If you never heard of Swervedriver, go BUY ALL THEIR ALBUM TODAY! ;) Well start with Mezcal Head or Ejector Seat. But since Ejector Seat is a british Import, MH might be a cheaper start. They also are just about to start a very extensive US tour, usually at venues where the tickets are between 5 and 10 bucks. For tour info, you might want to look at http://www.odc.net/~ssharma/swerve/tour.shtml. If you just want to see a few half minute performances, have a look at www.cgrg.ohio-state.edu/~tmoeller/tmp/Swerve Just my humble opinion, Torsten. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 May 1998 13:41:01 +0200 From: Erik Soderstrom Subject: Re: Did I mention... But since Ejector Seat is a > british Import, MH might be a cheaper start. I have to go with Alister on this. There are a couple of must-hears on Mezcal Head, but it's definitely the last Swervedriver album I would recommend. Raise, Ejector Seat Reservation and 99th Dream on the other hand are gems not to be missed. Especially the first two, but I haven't listened to 99th Dream enough yet to place it up there with them. //Erik ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 May 1998 10:00:12 -0400 (EDT) From: mike p Subject: stack dump David Stack posted this to the indypop list. anyone know anything about these bands? the subject was "slowdive soun-alikes" Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find any information or where I could pick up releases by the following two bands: The Sigh Naked Souls I think they are both from the Germany area, but I'm not too sure. I have a few of their songs on a compilation tape. I just love them both. They both sound very similar to slowdive, with The Sigh having more female vocals and Naked Souls having more male vocals. Any help would be great. On the topic of 99th Dream i'd just like to say that the album is the worst they have put out, BUT it contains the best songs that they have ever written. If you ever get the opportunity to see them play these new songs live you might understand. It's because I believe the album was over-produced, much the same as Ejector Seat Reservation (which I thought really sucked). After seeing them recently, Last Day On Earth, was the undoubted highlight of the both nights I went. The single Duel is fantastic, but i also like the other songs. The more you listen to them, to more you can detect in it... It's not just 4 chords. Everything fits so well.
