Ian sang and played bass on the song. But, does that make it solely his? Why would ya be mad at Graeme and Chris for playing a song they wrote? I understand where you're coming from; but I think it was great they did that: it was just a fun song for 'em to do live; and great for us unlucky ones that never got to see Ian sing it! :-( sorry, i was just not a fan of that incarnation of the pale saints. > I feel SLOW BUILDINGS is very good! The band were brilliant live in support of that album! Yeah!: IN RIBBONS!! It's got Masters' best work; and the rest of the lot's! In my opinion, Pale Saints hit their stride on the Half-Life EP: and it is no coincidence that this is the first recording to feature Meriel Barham on guitar, etc. ... Since we're on the topic, anyone remember the original band/artist that performed "Blue Flower", which Pale Saints did an incredible cover of on the "Throwing Back The Apple" EP ? ... Mazzy Star has also covered the above song ... I actually saw them [Mazzy] do it live, as well, I believe, when they opened up for Cocteau Twins in 1990 .... bon soir, Michael ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 02 May 1998 00:22:40 PDT From: "R. Coefficient" Subject: mouthbreathers...durutti column argh...i got on this list a few weeks ago, and i remember a friend of mine telling me how flame-prone and inane the radiohead (ick) list they're on is, and i remember smugly saying "must just be the music...the slowdive list seems pretty intelligent and polite" must have spoke too soon i guess.... ..so im going to atlanta tomorrow, seeking more early 80s echobox stuff, whats a good place to start with the Durutti Column? i heard a sample of them today, and really liked it, must have more... -pearson ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 02 May 1998 11:07:42 +0300 From: Siim Kalder Subject: Re: durutti column At 00:22 02.05.98 PDT, pearson wrote: > ..so im going to atlanta tomorrow, seeking more early 80s echobox stuff, > whats a good place to start with the Durutti Column? i heard a sample of > them today, and really liked it, must have more... Ahh, I've only heard one album by Durutti and it was great. Kinda reminded me of Michael Brook, the guitar sounds... I can't even recall the name of the album and I have the impression that Durutti Column have terribly lot of stuff out? Would be great if someone spoke up on this one. Would be great if someone spoke up on this one. First, The Durutti Column are only a bit like Michael Brook; though you could put Vini Reilly in the same sort of genre as Brook, for sure ... Though, here, I should say that I'm much more familiar w/ Durutti Column than I am w/ Brook .... Yes THE DURUTTI COLUMN has many releases: most were on FACTORY, which, of course, is no more ... Some of the stuff has been re-released on FACTORY ONCE; whilst the first "official"(by catalog #) FACTORY TOO ('94) release was a Durutti Column album "Sex and Death" [Fac CD 2.01] ... The Durutti Column's albums are usually kind of eclectic - a melange of stuff - usually interesting; but not necessarily that engaging ... All their stuff which I've heard is, at least, worth listening to, however. ... As for a starting point, It's hard to say, I don't have all the albums so I'm not the most qualified to comment ... I would say just buy anything you can find (preferrably used) and go from there! I have several albums by The DC, as well as "a FACTORY Sampler", so if you require any more info on them just let me know ... later Michael PS There's a great FACTORY Records discography web-site which is easy to find [under Factory Communications], sorry: do not know URL off-hand ... PPS You guys in Atlanta: did anyone catch the JAZZ BUTCHER gig yesterday ?? ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 2 May 1998 09:07:51 -0700 From: "ryan cosebom" Subject: Re: durutti column durutti column have many albums out. most of which have recently been reissued with extra tracks that, at the time of original release, were either unavailable, or extremely rare. i encourage you to get these. 'the guitar and other machines' is a classic. also, to be honest, his new album, 'sex and money', i think it is called, is pretty nice. ps: vinni reilly of durutti column was the guitarist/ co writer on morrissey's viva hate album. explains a lot, that one. ryan. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 02 May 1998 23:10:16 +0200 From: Erik Soderstrom Subject: Grimble Grumble Someone (Gary?) posted a long report from Terrastock earlier where he mentioned Grimble Grumble as one of the bands to be on the lookout for. I have since then tried to find *anything* with them on the net, a simple soundclip, a home page, a review. Nothing. I did find a mailorder which had these items: -- LP Grimble Grumble Grimble Grumble US ltd numbered slv of 500 10" Grimble Grumble Only Point Of Entry 1st US 10" on Burnt Hair recs CD Grimble Grumble S/T US CD on Won't Go Flat -- And then today someone on the 4AD-L list posted: -- Grimble Grumble: one of the unexpected highlights of the festival, this is a band to watch. beautiful, dense, swirling guitar noise that brought slowdive, fsa and 'meddle'-era pink floyd to mind, grounded by a solid rhythm section, and just the right combination of chaos and melody for my taste. their records are pretty fine, but don't miss these kids live. and very, very nice people to boot. -- Which really makes them essential "material". ;-) Anyone with any info to share? //Erik ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 2 May 1998 18:07:57 -0400 From: eddiej7@juno.com (i'll be your future boy) Subject: Mojave3 in Texas? Hi folks, Did anyone tape the show that Mojave3 did down in Texas? I'd really love to hear that show. Anyone? If you got a tape of it, let me know. We'll work something out.
