I won't name names though. Ha ha hehe! It must be the tune i taped in Gavle -91! Who spread the word about that one??? Erik, are you there?? Let set it straight: I was back stage interviewing the band. The guys were sitting in a sofa, strumming on a guitar. Then they said smth like: this was a new song of ours. I went: "WHAT?!" and then they all looked very mysteriously at each other. (I hadn't heard that particular MBV song, so I couldn't recognize it by then :-/ ) So AFAIK they never played it live. It was just something to mock me... Something to that effect anyhow. Like the Time-Life commercials used to say: "Read the book"! :) Daniel ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Feb 1998 14:35:32 -0500 From: jvanslem Subject: Live Slowdive Thanks to those involved, especially Erik, (and Neil and Rachael, of course) with getting the Live Oslo tracks on the net. One question though: I experience some random (vinyl-like) pops and clicking noises when I play the files. Is it the recording, my Mpeg player, or what? I' guessing that it's the recording, but if not, please enlighten me. Also, When is someone going to upload some more live tracks? I am dying to hear some more live stuff. Erik? Thanks again, Justin ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Feb 1998 14:13:41 -0600 From: timethief@juno.com (Luis B. Abcede) Subject: Re: Live Slowdive I did the MP3 encoding of Oslo, and you're quite welcome. The pops and clicks are from my cassette. However, the original recording was on vinyl. I tried to reduce hiss, popping and other imperfections as much as possible, but any more noise reduction would compensate some of the high frequencies. While I was doing it, I discovered the recording sounded really dull --- gotta compromise a little. I originally did this little project, because someone wanted to press a CD and sell it for their own personal gain. Why pay when someone could distribute it for free? I'd do more, but the only other live recordings I have are on video. I don't have access to a Hi-Fi VCR, so unfortunately, that's it for now. Anyhow, in terms of quality, this is the best of what I have. Thanks for listening, Luis timethief@juno.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Feb 1998 13:06:12 -0800 From: daniel lee Subject: Quality of Live in Oslo? I just recorded the mp3's from my computer to my tape deck, but there seems to be a lot of tape noise/fuzz in the recording. Since I haven't heard any other copies of the boot, I was wondering is it this noticeable among them all, or did my tape deck just amplify the tape noise? I'm not sure if I should keep this recording or throw it away and get another copy from a trader. thanks in advance, daniel lee ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Feb 1998 15:49:14 -0600 From: travis salisbury Subject: RE: Quality of Live in Oslo? The mp3's have data compression and when decompressed produces artifacts(hiss and fuzz). As far as I know most of the traders on the list will send you a copy straight from the original vinyl....My copy sounds pretty good.... I think it's great that someone is offering to do this for all us fans! :) What do think of Slowdive live? Pretty amazing stuff, huh? It's so powerful and the guitars sound incredible!:) Take Care Travis ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Feb 1998 23:37:53 +0100 From: Erik Soderstrom Subject: Gary Clark (was: RE: Quality of Live in Oslo?) When it comes to the material they write, the way they play the guitar and the sound they create with it? I just got Transister's s/t album to review, and the gorgeous end track "Flow" is just as ingenious as something Neil would have done. //Erik ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Feb 1998 23:40:19 +0100 From: Erik Soderstrom Subject: RE: Quality of Live in Oslo? I was under the impression from Luis that he put the mp3s up from the original vinyl? maybe I misunderstood him.... ------------------------------ End of Avalyn Digest Vol.98 #23 ********************************
