Now in English: Nykoping best bands have joined forces and put their music onto a cd. To celebrate this their is going to be a release party, were a few of the bands are going to perform, inkl the first band on the cd, King of the commandos, (whom are also releaseing their first ep) and as if that wasn't enough, also Karlstad band Alien8 have been invited to play. At least it seems, that (in this case) finnish bands are judged in another way than the standards (that means english and so on, and music out of this hot countries, where most of germans for example spend their holidays ...), because, best-known-finnish bands here, are ... may be : Leningrad Cowboys Elakelaiset Waltari Jimi Tenor That's it, I think ... so maybe Tenor fits up-to-date here, right now, Waltari came up with the "Crossover"-Wave, but Cowboys and Elakelaiset are somewhat out of rating them ... So, Suomalaiset, it seems, if you wanna have success in fxxxing old germany, you either where sharp-pointed shoes and hair or you enter the stage naked ... ?! Hmm ... Mh, I've never had the chance to see Bjork live, so here it is, or what? Skanderborg? Near Aarhus, right? So, any Danes here that can tell us more about this very festival ? It would be accessable by land from me, and not much, mentioned on Scan-Indie, are! Reiner ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 6 Mar 1998 04:31:32 -0500 From: Mo Holkar / UKG Subject: How indie in Finnish will make it in the UK >> The thing is, singing in English is as cool as anything here. So is Italian and Spanish and French, but not Finnish or Polish or Dutch. If the British can be convinced it's cool to buy records in Finnish, you be they'll do it. Hell, they go and see opera in Italian, don't they? Watch subtitled French films? Buy Stereolab records? << That's probably a tribute to you being more cosmopolitan and open-minded than us... in this respect at least! At least with Stereolab most English people have a vague chance of understanding some of it, as we have to do at least four years of French at school. But anything else, forget it. The number of people here who could understand as much as a word of a song sung in Finnish (or Swedish come to that) is going to be vanishingly small -- and not including me alas. I've got a friend in Oxford. and if that didn't astound you, she's learning finnish, and she likes running around singing "joo joo, sut kylla tunnetaa... oot niin kaveria, kaveria" I mean 'cmon, just when i thought nerdy indie-pop had turned into poop, Karrkiautomaatti releases their new single "Seikkailuun"... if there are two singles a good human must own, let them be Bob Hund's "Ett Fall & En Losning" and Karkkiautomaatti's "Seikkailuun". i mean, even the hardest black-wearing Merzbow fan can't stop from smiling when hearing the rock-a-rollah on this thing. timo, who thinks the world would be a better place if everybody would own atleast one slab of vinyl or laser disc containing the flat-out guitaring of Roy Montgomery. www.sirius.com/~dfr/ (hint!hint!) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Mar 1998 20:58:45 +0200 From: "Raitis" Subject: Latvian rocknews/ 7 march Rocknews from Latvia / 7 march (short version) ************** 1) friday famous greek singer Demis Roussos guested in Riga with concerts, was almost sellout concert. I'll drop the thing in the mail today. A separate message with addresses and instructions has been sent to everyone who signed up. As to myself, I'm about to sign off all the mailing lists that I'm on, as I will be in Europe for the next 2 months. Sorry to miss the hordes of pop kids who will be descending on the Gray Area for Spring Break. Hopefully any basic Radio Khartoum business will be handled by my friend Jennifer in my absence. mailto:ahammer3@ix.netcom.com But no promises. Except that I will be back on May 19th and will make sure anything that didn't get taken care of then. Summer at RK headquarters should finally see the release of the first volume in our fake soundtrack series, which will feature (on the first disc) tracks by Chocolate Barry, Seashells (Sweden), Bizarre (Estonia), Essiar, and Christine (France). The RK vaults are stacked with material for future volumes of this project. Merricks, Caramel, Watoo Watoo, Gypsophile, Spring, Le Mans, El Joven Bryan, Chesty Morgan, Danny Manners & David Longdon, and Louis Philippe, just to name a few... And the rest of 1998 is looking very French: The mini-album by Watoo Watoo should be finished shortly after my return, and later in the year there should be more minis from Essiar and Gypsophile. Hopefully I'll be able to check my e-mail now and then from the road, but just in case anything important comes up, I've set up temporary account: rkhartoum@hotmail.com ...though I really prefer to get stuff at xander@sirius.com Until we meet again, Alexander .Radio Khartoum. http://www.algonet.se/~elegans/radiok/ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Mar 1998 21:42:08 +0100 From: beluga@wineasy.se Subject: mostly Scandinavian punk rock Another month and yet another bunch of cool new Swedish punk rock releases. all worth checking out! Alien 8 - Never a Moment (7"ep) (Beluga) #(Released 14th March)# This is the first release for Alien 8, but I'm sure it's not their last. Swedish skate punk rockers trashing out 4 great tracks, not unlike Nofx / Bad Religion. Recorded in Sunlight Studio in Stockholm, with Tomas Skogsberg, famous for his brilliant Hellacopters recordings. ################################################ The PeepShows - Longstocking Babe (7") (Speed Demons 1000, 01) This is the first record for Speed demons, a sub label to Frank records I think. Peepshows pump out some great tunes here, that all Hellacopter's fans will love. ################################################ Puffball vs The PeepShows - Split (7"ep) (Speed Demons 1000, 02) #(Just Released)# Puffball is one of the hardest and fastest growing bands in Sweden. This is a must for all you punters who are into the Swedish scene at he moment, great record. ################################################ The Hives vs The Pricks - Split (7"ep) (Hard On 02) #(Just Released)# This is what Burning Heart say about The Hives: The Hives are young, bold and great looking. Besides this they also present some of the most innovative and adventourus punk this side of the Dead Kennedy's. Mix the rock'n'rolling of New Bomb Turks/Rocket From The Crypt with the energy of Operation Ivy and the guitar riffings of Dead Kennedy's and you are close. Their debut album "Barely legal" is a milestone of frenetic savage punk'n'roll by well-behaved teenagers gone mad!. Live, the autopilot is never on either, and The Hives rocks like there's no tomorrow. Hail, hail The Hives...... ################################################ King of the Commandos - Instro Solidarity 97 (7"ep) (Ucu-001) #(Released 14th March)# 4 fast Instrrrro songs with attack, action-noise and punk from Sweden ################################################ The Idyls - The Sonic Boing! (7"ep) (Ken-005) #(Released 14th March)# Swedish noise mungers trashing out yet another fine ep, preorders have been swarming in after all the Swedish radio air play. Great art work sleeve, not unlike the Sonics! ################################################ Henry Fiats Open Sore - Satans Boy (7") (Ken-004) Wow, it's back again, after getting a whole page in one of Swedens national papers, (Puls) this 7" became a sought after collectors item in Sweden, reissue of only a few hundred. (same cover) Number 1 single on Grunnen rocks for 1997!!!!!!!! This band also appeared on The Swedish Sins Album (one of the best tracks on the comp). ################################################ Thanks for your time Trevor ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 08 Mar 1998 01:06:00 +0100 From: Erik Soderstrom Subject: [GIGS] Luger Tour List [08-Mar-98] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scandinavian Indie COMPLETE Luger Tour List Scandinavian Indie March 8th, 1998 by Erik Soderstrom ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- SCANDINAVIAN: HONEY IS COOL (S) - MVG Records / MD Mar 28 Goteborg (S) Trappan MONSTER (S) - MVG Records / MD Mar 13 Bollnas (S) Tranan Mar 14 Stockholm (S) Fritz's Corner Mar 27 Goteborg (S) Trappan Mar 28 Kungsbacka (S) Kings-Ton MOTORPSYCHO (N) - Startracks / House Of Kicks Mar 25 Stockholm (S) Fritz's Corner Mar 26 Linkoping (S) Herrgar'n Mar 27 Goteborg (S) Pusterviksbaren LOOSEGOATS (S) - Startracks / House Of Kicks Mar 13 Degerfors (S) TBA REFUSED (S) - Burning Heart / House Of Kicks + No Fun At All, Liberator & The Hives (Sued(e)palooza) Mar 08 Albi (F) CCA Mar 10 Madrid (E) Katedral club Mar 11 Barcelona (E) El Garage Mar 12 Montpellier (F) Rockstore Mar 13 Biella (I) Babyloonia Mar 14 Pordenone (I) Rototom Mar 15 Ljubljana (YU) Festival Dvorana Mar 16 Vienna (A) Szene Mar 17 Salzburg (A) Rockhouse Mar 18 Wil (CH) Remise Mar 19 Bern (CH) Rightschule Mar 20 Munchen (D) Backstage Mar 21 Schweinfurt (D) Alter Stadtbahnhof Mar 22 Salzgitter (D) Forellenhof Mar 23 Osnabruck (D) Hydepark Mar 24 Essen (D) Zeche Carl Mar 25 Koln (D) Live music hall Mar 26 Frankfurt (D) Batchkapp Mar 27 Leipzig (D) Conne island Mar 28 Berlin (D) So 36 Mar 29 Hamburg (D) Markthalle ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- NON-SCANDINAVIAN BAD MANNERS (UK) - Dojo / Import Mar 12 Stockholm (S) Studion Mar 13 Malmo (S) KB COMPANY FLOW (US) - Rawkus / MNW ILR - MD Mar 31 Lund (S) Mejeriet Apr 02 Oslo (N) So What Apr 03 Stockholm (S) TBA Apr 04 Umea (S) Umea Open FU MANCHU (US) - Universal Mar 10 Stockholm (S) Studion Mar 11 Oslo (N) So What Mar 12 Malmo (S) KB Mar 13 Kopenhamn (DK) Club Vega GRAHAM PARKER (UK) Mar 25 Malmo (S) KB Mar 27 Stockholm (S) Studion Mar 28 Goteborg (S) Pusterviksbaren TORTOISE (US) - City Slang / MD Apr 07 Oslo (N) So What Apr 08 Lund (S) Palladium UNSANE (US) - Startracks / House of Kicks Mar 24 Malmo (S) KB Mar 25 Stockholm (S) Studion Mar 26 Goteborg (S) Warehouse Mar 27 Oslo (N) Mars ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Luger Tour List UPDATES are posted to the mailing list now and then.
