Yup, you're right about this, but it isn't an excuse for the Journalist.
He/She can't think "The people reading my reviews are a bunch of fuckwits,

Of course most people are worth a second chance. That's what I wrote.
Everyone makes mistakes. And most record and bands are as well worth
a second chance. My point was that critics admitting their faults and
correcting them is not always happening.

I guess I stated this too hard. The relationship should rather be 70/30 ;-).
When I say describing I'm not meaning "Objective" information, a review can
be as subjective as it wants, making one's own opinion come across, it really
should. But the review is made for the audience to know whether they're going
to buy the record or not, and the basis for this should be some sort of
knowledge of what it sounds like, and not what this and that journalist's
personal opinion is. You yourself wrote "Some people just let the journalists
rule too much over their musical taste."
It's not impossible to state your opinion while still being descriptive.
Compare:
"'Boner 99' represent all that is awful
about the music industry, they're absolute crap,
they haven't got a clue how good rock music should
sound like, stay clear of this! It's absolutely tasteless,
sexist and stupid. The vocals.. The lyrics.. The sound..
Everything sucks!"
"Boner 99's debut album "Satan's hairy dick" out now on Earache
takes the worst bits out of 70:s and 90:s hard rock and tries
to combine them. Imagine simple riffs like Deep Purple's but
without the headbanging quality and coolness, played in a 90:s
style with samplers and synths (RevCo+Ministry), with a vocalist
sounding EVEN MORE constipated than David Byron of Uriah Heep
fame. Add to this lyrics on the line:
"Satan's dick is hairy, he raped the golden fairy,
It all was kinda scary, but it's all over now, Oh Yeah!"
The only good thing about the record is that they mercifully
leave out the worst of the 80:s Metal, i.e. abominable haircuts,
crap ballads and endless guitar solos. None of that here, thank
god. But hey, don't let that make you rush out and buy it..."
I'm not that brilliant a writer either but there's much more to be read out of
the second one, or? I mean if you like RevCo, etc and like Metal singers with
extreme tremolo and bright voices, you might even like the record and go and
check it out. The attitude is often more like the first one, implying "I'm a
famous critic, I don't like this so you shouldn't either, don't buy it!"

Good point! My hope is only that the 20-year olds take their job seriously,
and try to learn more as they go, and that their prime objective not is only
to become a famous critic, and being provocative just for the sake of it.
(Still I think that some of the 50-year-olds out there are a lot more
worthwhile listening to than the 20 year olds, have you f.x. listened to
the radio programme Blazer, with Stefan Wermelin? He's a brilliant guy and
can really open your ears to new stuff. He'll play Bo Diddley and the
Nooners in the same programme!)

Yes, you're right about this, the critic should use his/her competence to
write good reviews, not to show off, "I'm so cool because I know of this
and this obscure band which you mere mortals never heard of". That's
Tidningen POP's illness. This also has to do with what you wrote about the
critic being on the same level as the audience. The critics must change
style according to what papers they write for, it's Ok to go on and on
about obscure 60:s b-sides in a collectors mag, or in a 60:s fanzine but
not in aftonbladet.

Yup, my analogies were a bit hurried, and not really accurate, but I still
think my point is valid.

there in almost every genre. And if this HC journalist were to review the

Is it Aalborg you're going to. It's a bizarre place, I can tell you that.
They have this "entertainment"-street where all sorts of bars are placed
just next-door to each other. And because of that they are at war with
booze-prices. The last time I went there a Gin & Tonic was 6 Danish
crowns, and that's kind of value for money, don't you think.
Are they playing the 1000 Fryd place? If they are, it's a very cool place
and I know they've been there before and liked it. Perhaps it's a bit too
small for them nowadays, so it might be that they play the Student House
or something like that.
Have fun, and I promise you'll enjoy both bob hund and Aalborg.

No, I know it sometimes takes a lot out of a journalist to correct their
faults and I can't really tell you why. But talking about Nunstedt, he
actually did apologise in Saturdays Expressen, stating he was a complete
moron.

If this is your point of view I am very willing to take back everything I
criticised you about before. In my world this is just about how a good

A Ray Wonder "Good Music" album review in the College Music Journal (CMJ)
January 1998 (courtesy of NONS USA):
This album by Sweden's Ray Wonder is a great reminder of what's so exciting
about new music and college radio's place in it: Where else could you listen
to an album from a band you know nothing about, and be thrilled to find that
it's the best thing you've stumbled upon in months? You'll be in love with
Good Music 30 seconds into its personality-drenched, instrumental intro cut,
"The Cad," with its simple little bouncy organ riff and sassy trumpet part.
As a whole, Ray Wonder (a band, not a guy) is a pop outfit with cheekiness
to spare. The band's crooning lead singer and melodic sensibility faintly
recalls Ben Folds Five, but this group is most definitely Swedish: There's a
retro vibe and spades of kitschy cleverness that will remind genre followers
of the Cardigans' early releases. At the end of the day, however, Ray Wonder
is simply a cagey quartet of pop songwriters, drawing you in with their
confectionery sense of fun and then hooking you with truly indelible tunes.
Ray Wonder's Good Music is a Christmas miracle! Must-have stocking stuffers:
"Souvenir," "What I'll Do," "Hang Me High," "Darta" and "Hold Me Tight."

not cover the full span of Norwegian Indie music. It will rather focus on
my favourite norwegian bands: Bel Canto, Motorpsycho, Seigmen,
