Hey, I don't think it is long enough to qualify as "Rock!"...more like
"Indie-Rock!" :)
Anyway, Dada Girl will be playing in Tampere (at YO-talo) on May 22nd,
along with Oriental Kaviar Dinner and The Pansies.

Also known as one of the greatest air guitar players in town...as well
as a big Curve fan (Jan & Erik take note! :) )

Okey-dokey... This week we're supposed to master the DAT, and the final
product _should_ be out in early June. That is, if the quite-lazy-but-
hard-working Timo Rotonen of Tangerine Recs manages to deal with the business
aspects of the release in good time. (goddamn if my English doesn't look
lousy tonight :)) Shucks, the new Super single might be out at around the
same time with ours.
Hey, BTW: hee-hee... Some members (including me) of Super and Coo have formed
a new tribute group: _ Black Saab_! Lo, not only do we play Black Sabbath
covers, but we're planning to sing the songs in _Swedish_! And we have
a nasty manager to boot! Anyone willing to translate some BS songs into
Swedish? Ah, the joy of beer-drenched camp humour!

I heard a recently-made tape by them. It sounded alright, but I've
heard that they've done some major arrangement changes into some of the
songs. Should be more straightforward now.... duh, I dunno. All I really
know is that they should be good.

And a _major_ caffeine addict. You should've seen the amount of coffee
he managed to drench during the four days we were in the studio.

Well, I guess you could make some shoegazing comparisons, but I think
we are more 'rock' than 'ethereal'. Actually, I think we've somehow
managed to combine the two. And I'm not talking about Ride's second album
here. More like the more rock'n'roll'ish songs by The Verve.
Funny you should mention the Neds; I just blasted their first album out of
my stereo the other day. Boy, my eyes almost went watery! ;) Such nostalgy!

As I mentioned earlier, early June. We _hope_. I won't be amazed if it

Hi there,
those who still take to effort to read my disjointed ramblings may
recall how about a week or so ago I raved about the greatness of the
indiepop/diy scene and how everybody should be active and do all sorts
of thingies instead of just sitting there and being passive. Well, to
prove that I walk it like I talk it, I am happy to announce that the
first issue of Chouette fanzine (put together by myself and Sami
of this list fame) is out and available right now!
There are 32 pages (A5 size), with English-written interviews with
Henry's Dress (USA), Dada Girl (Finland), Supperheads (Finland); also
we have the first part of what will be a colossal retrospective on The
Fall (UK) and there's a bit about Dallas (Estonia) too. Plus some
record reviews etc.
You can get the zine by sending me either 10 Fmk, 20 SEK, 2 UK/Irish
pounds or 3 US dollars (prices include postage) or by trading for your
favourite zine or some other fancy item of coolness.

Hey, have ned's split. I read on their URL that they did their final gig
_ever_ in august last year. SO that means i never got to see tehm on the
BrainBloodVolume tour. Fuck, they were a good band!

Hey!
did anyone see Silverbullet last friday her in Stockholm? I was amazed-type
blown away. This guy is a complete freak! Bob Hunds singer looks like a
nice ordinary person in comparison to the monkey fronting Silverbullet.
He threw himself on the audience, death-defyingly, poured beer over himself
and lied crawling on the floor for long periods. It was just luck that
there was no bloodshed this time. He made spontaneous attacks on things and
people, just by random.
HIm and the hammond organ player had huge sideburns and the whole band
sixties clothing. OK, so a friend of mine described it as a Iggy Pop/Union
Carbide rip-off, but it was great anyway. You couldn't hear a word what he
was singing, and the band made a lot of noise, fuzzpedals and wah-wahs a
gogo.
made me think of more psyckedelik bands like Jefferson Airplane and the
Doors, but off course the Iggy and the Stooges/MC5 reference was there.
They only played 30 min, but it made a lasting impression.
Seminal live act. Catch them next time.

(No age limit)
Thursday, 16 May: 30 local bands. "Known and unknown".
Friday, 17 May: Damn! anniversary show
Saturday, 18 May: Kent, Popsicle, The Cardigans, Naked, Dipper, Loosegoats.
The ticket to Saturday costs 165 SEK and is also valid on Thursday and
Friday.

As some of you may know, Tuesdays at Mejeriet are called Ryde's Bar. The
entrance fee is always 40 crowns. Some of the bands that have played there
earlier this year are Pineforest Crunch and Naked. The coming two weeks
look rather nice:

28 May: Bob Hund
It's always between 10 and 02. The bands usually start to play at about
11:30, at least not earlier. The only way to buy a ticket is at the door.

Sounds like the guy has overdosed on GG Allin videos.
Btw, are you sure it wasn't Silver Machine you saw? OK, their singer
isn't that manic, but they also do the Stooges/Hawkwind noisy psychedelic
fuzz thing, and play at deafening volumes live.

agree, bands who actually believe they are "the shit" tend to be nothing
but shit. that goes for a lot of bands. oasis and kent standing out. ;)

No, silver bullet is the name, of Gothenburg fame. Their demo was hyped in
Pop last autumn. But silver machine aren't from Sweden, right?!

yes, all three of them played the kalmar nation here in uppsala last
night, so, well, i just thought i'd tell you all about it.
him kerosene was i really curious to hear, but i managed to show up a
little late, so i only caught the last four/five songs, but boy, were they
ever good! they sounded like a bit heavier/hardcorier bear quartet, with
some energic superchunk sprit thrown in. at times they even took their
sound as far as shellac (crunchy, intrumental, monotonous) and about then
they were the best swedish band i've heard in a long time. but, then
suddenly their set was over even though i wanted more. can anybody on
here tell me something about them? i didn't have the money to buy their
cd, but apparently they are releasing an ep shortly which is supposed to
be really good..!
brick came as a surprise on next (they weren't listed on the bill) and,
well, they sounded good (loud bass/drums) but their singer was the most
annoying goof which totally put me down, so i went playing pinball
instead..
fireside put on a good set, with quite a lot of new songs. sadly a bunch
of big, drunk heavy metal-freaks with europe-style haircuts moshed
furiously through out the set which put just about everyone in a mood of
annoyance. i kept thinking they should put those "cool" moshers in one of
them steel cages that are used at football games to separate the team's
fans, so we all could enjoy the concert in our own way without getting
stomped. anyway, as i said, fireside were good, although they tended to
pause too long between the songs with the result that show lost intensity.
the biggest thrills were watching their bass-player rock out big-time and
the caotic way the show ended with the audience filling up the stage on
fireside's request and creating a total havoc. quite entertaining until
the singer from brick showed up and started to throw beer-glass around
the place..
overall, an evening full of fun with two great bands who apparently are on
a short tour together right now, so if you get the chance, go see them!

Damn, i should have been there, but i didn't know about it. I still hate
myself for not recording the awesome gig at Gino last december. I really
need a livetape with Fireside.

Yeah, i saw them on Reading 1992. He was a maniac, pulled down his pants in
front of 50.000 people and showed us his dong. Then he surfed out in the
crowd, with mike and all, driving the guards crazy. Finally he started
throwing full beercans at people, violently, spitting and snoring.
The guy from silverbullet was younger, and skinny in comparison to Yow, but
he behaved in the same way. Not offending, but just sooo freaked out.

Well sorry to say this, but they played at Hyndans H=F6rna in Stockholm on a
free, kind of secret, gig last Sunday evening (the12th). It was really, I
mean REALLY, crowdy when Fireside played but it became a bit better when Him
Kerosene played.
Because of the non-existing stage and the very poor sound at Hyndans the gig
was a rather odd one, but really fun anyway.
It was planned that they would play at Studion next week but for some reason
it is cancelled.
Only bad news here I guess.

They are playing at Kalmar nation here in Lund tonight. Is anybody going
to see them?

Hi Folks...
I just felt to share this story with my mail-friends on the list..
Blake Carringtons at Lule=E5 Rockfestival 11/5..a gig to remeber(when killing
yourself)!
Blake Carringtons was the last band out at the whole festival. Blake went to
the tent where they were supposed to play. Inside It was crowdy and the
people sang along with the local bluesband and everyone were intoxicated in
some way. We didn't know anything about the audience musical references, but
I felt a bit worried. On stage everything was a mess and it took a while
before everything was in order. So now we were ready to rock and SUDDENLY..
everything went black, the tent was OUT OF ELECTRICITY..a few minutes later
the light came back, but not the audience. So there were just about 30
people left. We made a brand new start and..HENRIK'S GUITAR SLIPPED OUT OF
HIS HANDS and smashed the floor. So we started a third time and two minutes
into the first song the MIC DIDN'T WORK properly then the GUITAR FUCKED UP
aswell..another break. We fixed that. Two songs went well then HENRIK'S KNEE
FELL OUT OF ITS PLACE and he laid on the floor shivering, I pushed his leg
and after a while the knee had found it's home again. The show must go
on..let's put Henrik in a chair and so we did. Then we played three songs in
a row without any disturbances!..then Henrik lost an e-string. We played one
extra song.... Then we felt to stop.
Well we had a great time before and after the gig so... Okey.

I just wish I could be there.. I recently received a tape from Kimmo with
some Dada Girl songs on it, and before that I received a tape (from Sami
if I am not mistaken?) with them "Live at I-Klubi 1995", and what can I
say? They're fantastic! And I totally agree with you about Antti's voice.
Though I have yet to hear something with Coo... It sounds intriguing
though. Dronish guitar pop and FX pedals galore couldn't be more "right
up my alley"! _I want that CD single now!_ :-)

aBLe - (Harry Lime) is in town (Linkoping) recording their debut album at
Toodle Recordings, Jorgen Warnstrom in Cloudberry Jam's studio. The
band arrived this wednesday, and are apparently working around the
clock, as often as they can, when Jorgen isn't busy elsewhere, like
when he is a sound technician at a Chickenpox/Flakes release party

Ceilidh - song titles for that CD compilation soon to be released, which you
have read about previously in this column, are starting to appear:
HappyDeadMen's contribution on the CD is - "Science Fiction".

Island US - are in Sweden to take a look at Swedish groups "Starlet" and
"The Drowners". It is Salt's US manager, Jeff, in fact, who is
in this country on a short visit. He will be present at the
Drowners gig in Skelleftea this saturday (May 18th) and in
Stockhom at "Orangus Tangus" for the Starlet gig on monday

Komeda - (NONS) played a very well received gig at Herrgar'n here in
Linkoping this thursday. The place was packed (and I almost
didn't get in to see them myself) and the audience demanded
to hear more when the band said goodbye, so they decided to
play an extra number which consisted of two songs. If one
would do a bit of name-dropping, one would say that there
were people there from SA, Skrikhult, Ostgota Correspondenten,
Cloudberry Jam, aBLe, NONS, Anders N. Productions, Puffin

Lousy - will release a single on Sappy records in Canada in about two months.
The tracklisting is as follows: A: Kewl, Heavy Metal, Okay.
B: Ouch!, Blunt, Teentime. All songs are taken from their latest
"unofficial" demo tape. Sunday records in the US has also expressed
their interest in the band as well as swedish Air Chrysalis

Stevepops - who these days are called "Smart" were to release a 7" on
Ceilidh a while ago, but now it looks like this will never
happen unfortunately. Label owner Ola Hermanson says that
the only way it can be released is if they decide to do it

Tongue Gongue - also played a very well received gig at Herrgar'n together
with Komeda this thursday. Unfortunately, the queue outside
the place made it impossible for me to get there in time,
so I had to resort to ask the people who did see them. A
big thank you goes to the female member of the band, who
assisted me during the Komeda gig: THANK YOU! The same
name-dropping list under the Komeda section goes for this
