Well, I'm off to the Roskilde festival tomorrow, and I'll be gone
for the next week and a few days. In case you're going, and want
to have a chat, look for someone in a t-shirt with "Scandinavian Indie"
on the front and back (white t-shirt) plus the URL and mailing list
address on the back. Well, it's a big place, so maybe not. :)

Hi!

I hope not everybody has left for Roskilde yet!

Me and my friends are thinking about going to the Quart Festival
in Kristiansand July 5-9. But we don't know much about it, so here
are some questions:

- Is it good? I.e. Will there be a lot of people?
- I heard it's 500 nkr, is that right?
- When exactly does it start and end?
- Is it good for camping?
- Do we need tickets in advance, or can we get them at the festival?

All additional info is appreciated.

Heelo everyone!
This message is mailed from the Roskilde festival. PJ Harvey was great.
I'm going to see Whale later tonight. No rain yet, but only lots of warm
beer.

This rather intense reaction came as a shock to me (and I'm certain others
as well!) Isn't it common knowledge that the Scan-indie list doubles as a
Russian dating service? Hmmm, I guess he already has a date.

I got the latest catalog from CD Collector today, and in there there's
a BQ CD Single called "I'm Slow". There's no release year listed.
Anyone know of this one? Is it new? Is it old? It has 4 tracks btw.

Hi there!

I came across a Popsicle CDEP I hadn't seen before, called
"Histrionics", if memory serves. I think it had four tracks, and most
of the titles sounded oddly familiar, so I thought I'd ask all you
knowledgeable people out there, what's the deal with this EP? It
looked like it was released in 1995, if that helps.

Heh, hmm, well, okay then. :) It's short and .. um, sour. Here it goes:

"Someone at Lysator in Linkoping has made a page about Swedish Indie
bands. Someone at Lysator is way too fond of weird backgrounds.
Someone at Lysator is not considering the fact that most users only
  have access to normal monitors."

 There you have it.

 * Rumors say that Jocke (West Side Fabrication) sold the complete
West Side catalog to an unknown company in Japan, who will
try to get the japanese people to get good taste in music.

 * Hultsfred Festival are working on their own WWW homepage.
A bit late one might think, but they are working on it anyway.
When it is ready, where one might find it, and what it will
contain are a couple of other questions.
(Thank god Velvet Belly will be there at least!)

 * The Lollipop festival have their own homepage. (Heh Heh,
   Hakan Waxegard won't stop). It's at: www.ot.se/ot/lollipop.html.

Hejsan!

I think the following message from Jan Sundstrom was meant for the
whole list, not only for me (apologies if I'm mistaken):

Yeah, recently bought it in London, it's a UK only release. Apparently the
record company are working quite hard, coz there's adverts on it in NME (or
wasit MM) and i saw a shop display at Sister Ray.

Can't remeber all tracks, but think it was Soul Laquer Drug, a new one
called Smooth, and one more from Laquer. All remixed!!!

There's also a promo (1-tr) on Histrionics, no sleve or anything just the CD.

Anyone recent seeing them live???

So, despite neither of us actually deciding to go, me and Kimmo
S{{skilahti will be travelling up to Tr{stocksfestivalen
by train tomorrow. Two questions:

1) Is it obvious how to get to the festival once we reach
Skellefteå? Do we just follow the trail of Swedish indie kids and
hope for the best?

2) Any reliable way of optically ID-ing scan-indie people? I'm 171cm,
skinny, dark-haired, glasses, probably be wearing my washed-out green
Irish cap at least some of the time. Kimmo says he has a red denim
jacket, but then maybe everyone in Norrland has one...

Off to buy the tent then. Talk about organisation %-)

I want this too!!! If anyone has it, make sure you email me as well, I have
a TON of rare Bjork/Sugarcubes/pre-Sugarcubes Icelandic indie music (bands
that 'cubes members used to be in) I could dub in trade......like Bjork's
first band, Tappi Tikarrass, for example.

Then I "of course" have to tell you my favourites:

1. Silverchair
2. Gene
3. Michael Wiehe
4. Veruca Salt
5. Blur
6. Whale

Biggest disappointments:

1. That Live never showed up (The singer Edward Kowalchyk was said to be
ill, but my thery is that he was just tired of Europe...)
2. Offspring.

Martin.

Well, then I have to join the club too, I suppose:

1. Boredoms
2. Weezer
3. Whale
4. PJ Harvey
5. Veruca Salt

Also Young Gods, Dick Dale, Gene, Armageddon Dildos, and Paul Weller were good.

Biggest disappointments for me:

1. That the US tribal/industrial band Crash Worship played without being
announced, so I missed them :(
2. Supergrass
3. Suede

I skipped all the crowd magnets like REM, Offspring, Sinead, Cranberries,
Oasis, Blur, etc, so I may have missed some good concerts there.

See ya in Hultsfred?! (now that they've gotten Posies, Sleeper, and Slayer
I'm considering to go).

Cheers, Mårten

R.E.M.: They were ok.

Offspring: Big disappointment. The setlist was almost identical to their
concert in Copenhagen in April. The sound was quite bad too.

Sinead: Didn't see her.

Cranberries: Due to the Veruca Salt concert I only got to see the last
three songs, but those were great. Dolores was really wild, and the audience
was _big_! In Extra Bladet (a Danish newspaper) they reviewed this show -
among others - and gave it 5 out of 6 points. The reviewer also made it
quite clear that the tent was absolutely too small for such a big audience;
he wrote something like this: "It was like an inferno in front of the stage
and I could only stand there for one song, then I fled back to enjoy the
rest of the concert _outside_ the tent".

Oasis: Due to the Veruca Salt concert (again!) I only saw ten songs. Out of
these ten, five (!) were completely new songs! Since I am the only "die-
hard" fan among my friends, we (that is _they_...) decided to stay outside
the tent. Anyway, what I saw, and heard, seemed good.

Blur: They were really good. Better than I expected.

Martin Eksten.
