Warlords II is a fantasy strategy game where up to eight players (human or computer) fight for domination of a world. It is not based on Tolkien per se, but several Tolkien scenarios have been created for it. Those scenarios that are listed here unfortunately only seem to work with the MS-DOS version, except Silmarillion, which only works with Mac..

The following scenarios are described on this page.

Personal evaluation: A very good game, although perhaps something of a beginner's game. The Tolkien scenarios often become somewhat absurd since every other nation is a potential enemy and everyone usually ends up making war on everyone else (more or less). It also feels very strange to start with only one city and have to conquer all the neighbouring ones.

Conquest of M.E.

The same author also wrote a scenario titled War of the Ring for Heroes of Might and Magic II.

Personal evaluation: A slightly less-than-perfect map makes an otherwise very playable scenario lose some of its appeal. On the other hand, much effort has been paid to making interesting armies and correct names of heroes.

Personal evaluation: Certainly not one of the better Warlords II scenarios. Most of the army units are far too strong and the map looks weird.

Personal evaluation: The map looks partly strange, many names of towns are extremely strange and in general it seems unfinished, but apart from that it plays well if you are looking for a four-player scenario with only 35 cities.

Note that this is one of two different Warlords II scenarios with the same title.

Personal evaluation: This scenario has a rather nice map and plays well but its playability is reduced by many grammatical and spelling errors, generally boring descriptions and the same ugly shield set you find in Paul R. Ames' scenario with the same title.

Please contact me if you know the name of the author of this scenario.

Personal evaluation: With a title like that, you'd expect something rather horrible, but the scenario is actually quite nice.
