I included the original post to Lawrence in a recent letter and he that he had actually used the _Unwilling Warlord_ system in a real-life RPG (how's that for an oxymoron?) he used to run. To quote: "It's incredibly complicated, but it worked." He also mentions in an interview we're running this issue that he originally designed the world of Ethshar with the idea of gaming in mind, but that it didn't work out and he decided to write novels there instead.
