Caves Nature Nice places

Trollegater

Deep inside the forests west of Rimforsa, the ground has cracked up after the last ice age creating a rocky landscape. Here and there under the large rocks several caves has opened, and the largest of them is called Trollegater and is the most amazing of all caves in this region. Take a full day and explore it, and all the other six smaller caves too. There are more information on another page, including driving directions. The caves are located at the GPS coordinates N58 08.841 E15 34.455

Grottorna i Klevberget

Just west of Rimforsa you can find the caves of mount Klevberget. There are several different caves and they are not easy to find in the difficult terrain. One of the caves named "Shoecave" is a bit peculiar. Enter it and find out why. There are more information on another page, including driving directions (but the RT coordinates on that page is wrong by 1 km). The peak above the caves has the GPS coordinates N58 08.922 E15 38.084

Rösjögrottan

The cave of Rösjö is located north of Motala. It is a very small cave, but still quite interesting.  The cave type is horizontal marmite and that is unique in Sweden. The day I visited the cave in the beginning of november it was a bit wet on the floor.  There are more information on another page, including driving directions. The cave has the GPS coordinates N58 39.132 E15 05.049

Kvilleken

This oak is over 1000 years old and very large. The trunk of the tree is amazingly thick. It is probably the biggest oak in northern Europe and it is located near Norra Kvills National Park. Sometimes this oak is named Rumskullaeken.  Approximate GPS coordinates are N57 44.12 E15 37.75

Idhults naturreservat

Nearly 20 km west of Kisa lies a small village on top of a small mountain, which has a wonderful view over the surrounding lakes and forests. You can see signs on the rocks how this place fiercely resisted the inland ice. During springtime lots of rare flowers can be seen growing on the dry and rocky meadows. The old aspen trees standing here used to be harvested, giving the cows something to eat during the long winters. The place is well worth a visit.

"When I was a boy
  A god rescued me often
From shouts and whips of men,
It was then that I played
Safely and well with woodland flowers
      And the winds of heaven
       Played with me."
