The story about Mats Persson

I was born early in the morning 15 June 1964. I lived the first 20 years of my life on a farm a few miles north of the small town Ystad in the far south of Sweden. My parents tried to teach me how to be a farmer, but instead I sat inside reading books, drawing or painting, making new constructions or inventions, or walking around outside becoming friends with the trees, talking with the animals, or getting "lost" in the hills around the farm. Very often talking to myself, because no one else understood me.

I have always liked to fill in forms, studying them, making them, drawing squares and circles. Building and studied tables, and filling in numbers, counting and calculating. I have also been a collector of facts, reading encyclopedias, studying the world around me and trying to understand how it works. I have a good memory and I fill the gaps with my intuition. I usually win in Trivial Pursuit.

When I discovered computers when I was 15 years old I was totally fascinated. This was what I had been searching for my whole life. A machine that could organize, calculate and store my facts, inventions and charts. A new world was opened for exploring.

Some years later I started playing roleplaying games. Mostly because of it's mystic and fantasy elements, and the tables of course. I tried wargames which had even more complicated charts and tables, and facts of history. I like to spend lots of time on these games.

War in real life wasn't as much fun as I thought, which I realized after 6 months as a UN-soldier in Cyprus 1984. A life with only booze, prostitutes and military exercise, was too simple for me.

In 1985 I started studying computer technology at Linkoping University. I had no problems with exams and I wasn't too eager about making a career. Five years later I created one my biggest inventions. You can read more about this in the NannyMUD webpages.

Other hobbies I have had is fishing, bird watching and scouting. I have a rather big collection of comics, mostly fantasy and science fiction. The most mystical and alien creature on this earth, has never had a significant presence in my life. My contacts with this otherworlder, has been few and confusing. They give me food sometimes. Maybe they are feeding me. Maybe they just want my sperms. They haven't asked for them yet.

I'm shy, introvert and lazy. Some people say I'm smart and nice, and for some unknown reason they give me lots of respect. When people try to talk to me I look in some other direction. This distance has bothered several teachers and other people. They don't think I'm interested. I'm a dreamer, loner and inventor. I happily spend hours and days alone without talking to anyone, most of the time lying on my bed trying to figure out how everything works. Asocial they say, but I can be social, nice and friendly if you wake me up.
