Allo, right since i've been on this list i've noticed that everyone seems to
like the Charlies album between 10th and 11th, however I thinks it is a pile
of pants. Don't get me wrong, i'm as big a fan of the Charlies as the next,
but except for "Page One" the rest of the songs are rubbish. This Album
compared to the other three just isn't in the same league. Right goodbye then,
Cheezie.

p.s. Dubstar are complete rubbish.

First it was Ride's "Chrome Waves" used as the backing track for the Nike
US Womens' Soccer Team last year and then Elastica's "Connection" for the
Budwiser Blimp commercial (for Christ's sake) and now, last night I was
watching like, the news, or the Sonic's game or something and, well,
y'all know, probably in the UK, too, these Microsoft "Where do you want
to go today?" commercials. Well, the new one has about 10 seconds from
"Life is Sweet", the break down part where it says "Check it", while the
mouse pointer move around clicking various icons.

Boys and girls, it's an "alternative" world we All live in. Well, at
least someone up at Microsoft Palace is listening to Chemical
Brothers/Charlatans..........that can't be a bad thing...or can it.....?

cheers, jason

that was part of a huge 4Ad deal signed with VW either last year or the year
before. cost VW tonnes of money. oh and then there is bjork used in a Mars
commercial. and i always here "indie" stuff like
ride/oasis/charlatans/stone roses/primal scream on newsworld's "fashion
file" and several entertainment magazine programs.

I agree it is not the same as the other three, but I like it much more.
There is much more to the songs, lyrically and musically, for me. Have
you ever really LISTENED to it? There are so many sounds in the
background that I didn't catch for the first two years I had it. Then,
at a concert once, Tim called it their most psychedelic record. That
made me rethink it and listen to it differently. Personally, I think
that it is so different from the other three that I wouldn't even venture
to make any kind of comparison

Another example of indie music in adverts;

Blur's "There's No Other Way" was used for a jeans commercial on the
French-Canadian version of MTV (Musique Plus).

I often hear the charlies on those syndicated "Entertainment Tonight"
clones...one time, it was in a story on John Bobbit! ("Polar Bear", I
think).

Hey charlatans

Does everyone know about the new nme website at:

http://www.nme.com

It has a great Timothy Leary article and Manics concert review. It's
not totally on-line yet (for chatgroups etc) but is looking good.

Unfortunately, the Public NME section didn't have any juicy gossip to
report on The Charlatans latest misdeeds and endeavours, so if anyone
here can appease our appetite, just go ahead.

cheers

Happen to die is such a cool song. That whole Over Rising disc is
incredible. I remember being so stoked when that came out, thinking an
album would be released shortly after. Then Me in Time came out and still
no 2nd album. What a depressing time in my life: No Stone Roses and no
Charlies. Had to make do with the likes of blur and the inspirals and
constant re releases courtesy of silvertone. Anyone else have any similar
experience?

o.k. i was reading that tim was into the wu-tang clan. they are a new york
rap group that some feel are the next wave of rap. the new style. the new
fad. there are about 5 or 6 in the group and their big pull is that they are
into martial arts and alias'. the fact about them is that they are just
another 'guns and bitches' hardcore rap group. but that is what tim was
talking about. the fact that they speak about things he has not experienced.
i just wish that tim could listen to some good hip hop (such as de la soul
or the roots) and hear about that stuff from people who think it's the
downfall of the community and wish it could be changed instead of hearing
about it from people who just want to make money!

what was the old news? hehehe!! I haven't a clue!! Maybe you ought to
start and we'll take it from there!! sound like an idea? In the meantime,
here is something completely out of range of the purpose of this list thing.
Here's a top 20 list that'll past the time and serve some kind of purpose in
the humor business!! This is for your reading pleasure!! Enjoy!!

Ha, Ha! Funny post, Erin, and welcome to the list. We haven't been
talking much, as the Charlie's are kinda in limbo (recording album, and
such). Although, we did have nice discussions about "Jesus Hairdo" and the
Chemical (Dust) brothers, and we also talked for some time about which
celebs wear what brand of trainers. Laugh if you must, but it was fun.

However, I do have a something for us ot talk about. It's somebody's
birthday today but you have to guess who's it is. Hint: there are 3
letters in her name, and it rhymes with den, hen, men, pen, ten, and zen.
I'll say no more, as I don't want to give it away.

Oh, and for those following EURO '96, keep us posted!

NON-Charlatans related!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought all the fashion/shoe related posts were quite humorous, but
to bring up the Wu-tang, I gotta respond. Do you have 36 Chambers? Do
you have any of the single members releases? They are an east-coast
thing, that's only starting to pick up hype in the west coast. I don't
know if you have listened to them, but to say it's fact they're just
about guns and bitches isn't accurate. Tim has good taste to be
listening to the Wu-tang. If you do listen to any of them, listen to
Liquid Swords by GZA. He talks about Labels manipulating rap artists,
and about how money rules the world, and about how kids can't be safe
cause there are bullets flying in their neighborhoods. It's an inner
city portrait, GZA paints a picture. It's not all about gangsta rap.
As far as making money goes, I think most bands/artists like the idea
of making money, that way they can keep doing it...

Easy on New Order, OK????
The 'World in Motion' is by far the best football song, there is. It was
recorded in the period when England were recognised as a world football
power so I guess Barney and co. had something to cheer about.

Lets treasure those times 'cos they may never repeat again... not soon
anyway ... having seen the Germans, Italians and French playing...!

Here here, I'd say the late eighties early nineties was a terribly tastie
year to imbibe tunes. Tekno was a new word and music lept to a new level.
The SUMMER OF LOVE was 88 and 89 in england and the charlies were a band
inspired by the world that surrounded them. E and A use was on the rise and
the underground clubs like THE HACIENDA thrived before their demise to a
very american (dare I let the hideious words pass my lips). But dear England
rose to the highest level of savior faire seen to date. the charlies
keyinintadisset dared to combine the forces of basic deep house roots and
create the most influential Manchester band ever to grace great B? I think
so sad the drunk with a blunt to back the attack.

DOES ANYONE HEAR ME?

P.S. WE here in the states who subscribe to MUSIC oriented boards do not
appriciate you blooks clutterin the list with football notes!

Ha! The Inspirals were nothing but sad, pathetic-looking Roses wannabes who
emerged purely to hop on the baggy bandwagon and earn a few bucks. Fair
play then I suppose, but in all the time they were around (which was
remarkably long for these fly-by-night cowboys), couldn't they have at
least produced one decent tune?

P.S. And don't give me none of the 'This is How it Feels' bollocks.

I never hated the inspiral carpets either; in fact I've always enjoyed
