the quality on hot licks is good for a bootleg....there's a couple of
mistakes that the person recording it made....and tim's voice goes kinda flat
on some songs....but it's a pretty killer disc....a must for a fan

"Hot Licks" is one of the better bootlegs you are going to find anywhere. The
sound quality is beyond excellent...I have always been very impressed with this
CD.

I think the vocalist (Sean something!?) continued for himself as The Soup Dragons (he should've
changed it to The Soup Dragon). The drummer in the Soup Dragons has, as many of you surely know,
joined Teenage Fanclub and was a part of the band when they released 'Grand Prix'. The Soup Dragons
(or Sean Simpson?) released an album last year which wasn't a great success. I didn't like the
album myself, which I think was the fourth album release for the Soup Dragons.

there you go, a short 'liberating' story.

Cheers

Last I heard Sean Dickson was keeping the name and working on his own stuff.
Paul Quinn (drummer) replaced Brendan O'Hare (now with Telstar Ponies) in
Teenage Fanclub. Sushil Dade (Bass) has joined the BMX Bandits. Which leaves
Jim McCulloch (guitar)???

what can i say, i whole heartedly agree that some friendly is
still a great album even compared to the new one. when i saw
the charlies in chicago, october of 95, tim truly is the best
performer on stage!!! and when they encored with sproston green
the ****ing place went wild. as for flower, the song i look forward
to hearing the most on that album, i agree as well that that part
hits home so well. wonderful letter!

Yes, you're not alone on this...Love 'em as much as you do and more!

>I love when Tim goes 'Don't bring the flowers to my bed, I
>don't wish you to know, It;s time I found myelf again"

A top song...I love playing it with my band...We also cover "Can't even be
bothered" - another classic!...

Anyone heard any news about the Charlatans? Last thing I heard was that Tim
and Mark are working on new material...

I know this might not be very relevant, but I wanted to share my excitement
about meeting Rachel Goswell and Neil Halstead (previously of Slowdive) and
the rest of the members of Mojave 3 this weekend...They played an acoustic
set in a music store in Berkeley. Great people to talk to, all of
them...They seemed really nice.
I Also saw Black Grape in LA...what a disappointment...whatever happened to
the spirit of the Happy Mondays? ...

Peace!

I favor Between 10th and 11th, personally. There is such psychedelic
subtlety to be found on that album, although I owned it for a good two
years before I started to appreciate it as much as I do now.

I envy yous guys the pleasure to actually see Charlatans live perfoming.
Being from land of Oz we get all these US bands coming down here but from
UK bands we only got Elastica and Stone Roses in 1995 and still can't see
any others comming. What's wrong with the promoters here???

Well, to all you Charlatan fans.... i got news...... ever since 1990, they
changed my life!
I was in a band Called Niagara, and we sounded very Charlatan influenced.
We kicked so much ass! as for the scene here in good O'l Washington state
USA, no one got us. They were all into Grunge and what ever the hell was hip.
We were the true band man, and only certain people knew it.
The Charlatans are my ULTRA FAVORITE band in the world! All the bands i like
are from England....and some U.S. bands but not much.
As for me, still my favorite album, the one that changed my life, is Some
Friendly! That album had MASS energy and they were young like me now (21).
I only have one video, the half ,ass, hour them. N E 1 know what other Some
Friendly videos they have???

well, i'll write more later.... i need to work on my new song.......i'm an
electronic musician also...so i can make it all sequenced and do music like
how i see it. I need a real B-3 or C-3.... for my new non electronic band
coming this summer.....

You must have missed something, yeah. I don't think it has been mentioned on
this mailinglist, but John Squire (the guitarist and the one who writes almost
all the songs) has left the Stone Roses. That means only half the original
Stone Roses are left, and it will never be the same. If the Stone Roses
continue with a new guitarist, there will be three new band members and two
old. For me that seems like a new band (and may they sound good).
It's sad isn't it?

I really hope The Charlatans keep on for a long time. They have survived many
scenes and band splits, so that's a good sign.

I love the organ solo on Flower!

Don't get too upset krissy!!! It seems to me that almost every band in
England has a surname. I mean Stone Roses are known as 'roses',
Morrissey is mozza, blutones are 'tones, Richard Ashcroft is known as a
mad Richard etc. It's just the music papers making up bollocks to sell.

I have seen the only one I know video on our local telly but I agree with
you that Charlatans are the best band in the world and that Some Friendly
is their career highlight. As for your band, good on ya that in the
flood of grunge that swept the universe in 1992-1994 (thanx GOD it's over
and never let it happen again) you did not betray your musical
influences.

I just felt like airing my, and i'm sure most other people on this
list's, opinion of what a class act the charlatans really are.

and i'm not purely talking singles and albums, i'm talkin' about the
less discussed b-side beauties, whether they are non-LP tracks,
re-mixes, or live versions, they never fail to impress.

my particular favourites today ( could well change tomorrow, with my
mood ) are:

Taurus Moaner, Stir it up, and Green flashing eyes.
how many other bands produce so many top-notch songs just for
b-sides ? Very Few !

i feel a lot better for getting that off my chest, thanks for
listening.

Where have you been? I assume you know that Rene left but John Squire has also left in the last couple of weeks. Since
he wrote most of the second comming I don't see much new happening for the Roses soon although there are rumours that
Slash is going to join them. It won't be the same now my two faves have gone.

I have to agree, although this is not my favourite album, Some Friendly is, I do
think it is very underated and gets better with time.

Stone Roses are no more! (Well not without JS snd Reni anyway)
I'm looking forward to JS's solo stuff. Will it be just Henrix
regurgitation? I hope not.

Compared to their earlier 'baggy' stuff, the Charlatans proved that they'd
soured as a unit.

Of course then 'The Charlatans' album came along and blew everything else
away. I just hope we see more Chemical Brothers colaberations in the near
future.

One thing's for sure though, Tim really needs to strength his song for
their live performances (not that I'm being picky or anything Mr Burgess,
sir!!!).

Right... I'll bugger off now

First shag is apparently the same as the new album the charlatans. Me mate

numbers are the same.

Actually only John Squire and Ian Brown were the original members of the
Roses. They had a band called 'Petrol' in mid 80's ands were apparently
covering The Smiths' songs.
I suggest John should join Johnny Marr (in my opinion those two are the
best modern music guitarists in England today) in Electronic and finally
get the new electronic 'prozac' album out!!! Has anyone got any news
about that album at all?

high, i'm also living in australia at the moment(what a dump),
anyhow, apparently it has just been confirmed(last week) that blur,
pulp an oasis are to be touring at the end of the year. (this info
came from scene, a free mag put out by the record traders in
queensland) Do you like any of these? i'm personally dying to see
blur because my starshaped and showtime videos are wearing rather
thin. Did you see elastica and the roses? I saw both.

The stone roses. LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have seen many shows in my time, by bands from all sections of the
music industry and none will ever surpass the power and the glory of
my first (and , sadly enough,) probably last roses show. How can one
express the magnitude of the ethereal magic that surrounds this band.
The show began with the anthemic, i wanna be adored and finished with
the resurrection. It all came and went like god coming down from
heaven to cleanse the world and then quietly slipping away, into the
night for some spliff and a few drinks.
