plan. There has also been some talk od some live dates but when and where has
not been decided.

this already been a double A-Side with Crashin' In?

Dear Tob,
Bullet Comes was a double A side with Just Lookin' and was the second single to
be released from the new album. I agree that it's an excellent song but to be
honest I do prefer Just Lookin'. The video for Just Lookin' is also the best
I've ever seen from the Charlatans. Have you seen it? It was shot at the GLC
headquarters in London and is really clever. I reckon Here Comes A Soulsaver
would make a great single but they have released enough songs from 'The
Charlatans' and it would be fairer to the fans to release something brand new.

P.S. Does anyone out there know whether or not the performance on May 11th 1995
at the London Astoria is going to be released on video? I was there and am dying

band wasn't happy with it and after the first day with Flood, Baker "...says
he's leaving..."

I'm pretty sure I've read that Baker left the band because he was
uncomfortable with the strain/stress/trappings of being a "rock and roll

Can we confirm the exact date of his departure?

I was under the impression that he left in between the release of
"Over Rising" & "Me In Time", but an earlier message indicated that he
left during the mixing of "Between 10th & 11th". Is Baker the guitarist
on the second album?

Thanks...I thought that I was losing my mind! :-)

Although the subject of Mr. Baker often comes up, we never seem to
discuss what an excellent job Mark Collins did when he stepped in. In
concert, he can play the Baker songs without problem...and his work
(especially on the most recent album) has matured significantly as the
band has progressed.

I honestly think that the addition of Mark Collins ensured the viability
of the band and prevented them from drifting into oblivion ala so many
other Madchester bands.

I agree with everyone who has written in support of Mark. I think he brought a
new dimension to the sound of the band and has helped them to grow. I'm glad
other members of the group are getting recognition for their parts in The
Charlatans. I do feel that Tim always being in the limelight does make some
people forget that there aree FIVE people in the band. I love Tim and his lyrics
but respect to the others too. What do you think??

Hey, hey, hey!

Has anyone played the beginning of Nine Acre Court, and thought that the
intro_bassline to I Wanna Be Adored could go really well with it? Any
thoughts? I think that IF the chanting wasn't there, the background noise
(random street sounds and aproaching bus-noise) is very similar to the noise
in the beginning of I Wanna Be Adored....! What happened to me was, I had
both The Stone Roses and the Charlatans albums (note: both self-titled
albums) together with 3 others in my five disc CD player, and when the intro
to Nine Acre Court came on, I was thinking the bass to Adored could begin
any second...Hey, I am not trying to say they are the same in any way, so
don't jump on me, alright!? They are completely diferent songs, I know...

Just a thought...I guess I listen too much (which never hurts) to the
Charlies and the Roses (the two greatest bands in the world)

Phew! Later...

I agree that Stir It Up could have been a single in it's own right and is one
of the best songs by the band. I reckon that it's nice that one of their finest
moments will only be experienced by real fans.

I believe there to be no lead singer in the Chemical Brothers as the two of
them both mix and when playing live (Blackpool Empresss ballroom - Supporting
The Prodigy) they had no vocalist.

P.S. Do check the album Exit Planet Dust as it has some sweet music on
     it especially Life Is Sweet.

OKAY...LET'S STOP THIS RIGHT HERE!

The comment about the lead singer looking familiar was a joke...

The person providing the vocals for "Life is Sweet" is Tim Burgess...he
is also in the video. This is a charlatans list...does everyone get the

P.S. I reckon Jon left during the mixing of Between 10th and 11th too and it's
the pictures of Mark in the C.D. which are making people think otherwise.

I don`t suppose anyone out there has a copy of "The Only One I Know" on
either CD or 12" that they would be willing to sell for a reasonable price?

Please, don't take it seriously! I was just caught by that idea for a moment
when I was listening to my CDs...No theory, really...Just a side note, I
guess...A cool thing I might try is play the bass line to Adored along with
the intro to Nine Acre Court...But, hey, I wasn't saying the two songs were
in any way similar, or whatever...

I sent a message but I'm not sure that it made it to the list. In a Q
magazine interview from late last year, Mark Collins said that he joined
the band right after "Me In Time" went into the British charts, which
would be well before 10th and 11th was finished.

Mark Collins gets a co-writing credit on 6 of the 10 songs on Between
10th and 11th; Baker is not credited at all.

Hi!

I think I can tell you for sure that John Baker left BEFORE the making of
10th&11th. When John left, it was said that the album was recorded except from
the guitarparts, but I guess they'd just played some demoes for the new album
(Can't Even Be Bothered was played by John Baker in concert). After John left
the band, there was a long brake before the Me.In time was released. Mark
Collins was a part of the band already then. Then Flood came into the picture,
and he hared Me. In Time, so they started to change a few things before they
released Between 10th & 11th which has very little to do with John Baker. Mark
played everything on that album. The last thing John was apart of was Over
rising!

Cheers!

Yes, I have often thought that myself...

I saw the Chemical Brothers about a month ago and they didn't play "Life

Hello out there!

Along with the other new kids out there, I go to school in a place
that carries only the dirty grunge they now call alternative. But I used to
get 109 all the time and I recall that there was some add for ordering all
sorts of nifty charlatans gear (including the coveted singles). Now, school
is tight, I have since passed that catalog on to others. But I also don't
have my back issues up here. Does anybody have that address (I think it came
from Omega records in England cos I got their sticker with it) and if you
do, post it so everybody can get there hands on it. I myself got a cool
long sleeve orange tour tee out of it.

Oh, and the Only One That I Know is readily available at record
conventions. I have never seen it go for more that $12, and usually about
$10. I have spent hundreds of dollars on the single for the charlatans,
suede, james, stone roses... Gosh, I really have an expensive hobby!

Has anyone heard of a Charlies record entitled "Guardian Angel"? It's a live
album with songs from "Some Friendly". Also does anyone have any old copies
of 109? I'd like to see what it looks like.

Hi!

I've got nearly all the lyrics for Up To Our Hips. It isn't the official
lyrics, but it's a mix of what some fans on this list, me, and a Japanese
booklet have managed to get together. It will be on the BackRoomWindow soon
(I've been saying that about the lyrics for a couple of months, but I think I
am really going to put it in this time!)

Guardian Angels? Well it's (or mine is) a live record. I haven't heard
isolation yet, but it does make me want to see the Charlies all the more.
(They don't come to Arizona) its contents look like this:
(bbc in concert 1/12/90)
The only one I know
You're not very well
I Can't even be bothered
Flower
Ocean Rising
then
SIDE B
Indian Rope
(Peel Session, June 90)
You Can talk to me
Polar Bear
Then
Always in Mind
(London National Ballroom, Kilburn, 8/11/90)

Ya gotta love it it's got Polar Bear on it.
Cheers!

Phil,

Well, there's also Toothache and a remix of Nine Acre Court. The
Charlatans released "The Charlatans UK v. The Chemical Brothers," which
contains three remixes of Toothache (Toothache Chemical Risk Mix, Chemical
Risk Dub and Instrumental Mix) and Nine Acre Dust (remix of Nine Acre
Court).

It says on the box that it was recorded in 1994 on tour but it has no
"Up to our hips" material. It is all earlier stuff and there is a
really good version of "Sproston Green" and "I can't even be bothered"

Hi mate!

I'm dying of jealousy now that you've shown me the contents. What is
Ocean Rising and Always in Mind?????

Please, please and double please can you get this album for me? As
you can tell, I'm a completely obsessive fan. I can get hold of Hot Licks
from a guy called Chris on the mailing list, but he wants Stone Roses in
return which I'm not sure where to get, and I don't think a monetary bribe
will make him part with it....

Yours longingly
Scott...

Hi All!

If you are interrested in getting a lot of Charlatans merchandise, I'd
recommand you writing to this address:

               Nic Sheen C/o Omega Music
               2 Witton Walk Northwich
               Cheshire CW9 5RQ
               ENGLAND

You must enclose a large stamped addressed envelope, or for us living outside
the UK, just send 2x International reply coupons!

IF some of you don't know how to get 109, then I'll put up that address as
well:

              109
              PO BOX 94 Northwich
              Cheshire CW9 5TS
              ENGLAND

You must send a large stamped addressed envelope, or if living outside
England, send 3x International reply coupons.
The next issue to come out is issue 16, but if you want some of the other
issues as well, just send more IR Coupons and ask for it in the letter. Note
that some of the issues are sold out!

Cheers,

The Charlatans and the Chemical Brothers have done quite a lot together. It
started when the Dust Brothers (as the Chems were then known) remixed Patrol for
the Jesus Hairdo single. Since then they've done Life Is Sweet and Time For
Livin' as you know. I also managed to get my hands on a US import called The
Charlatans vs The Chemical Brothers which has four remixes from the latest album
including Toothache... It's worth shelling out for.

There is also a mix of one of the teacks off Up to Our Hips on Jesus
Hairdo when the Chemical Brothers were still the Dust Brothers.

Oh, and someone wrote that the Stone Roses and The Charlatans were like
apples and oranges, or something. Well, IMHO "Your Skies are Mine" bears
a striking resemblance to "Your Star Will Shine", Track 2 (i think it is)
off of some friendly sounds a bit like "She Bangs the Drums", but it's
not all one way as the version of "Tightrope" on the "Crimson Tonight" ep
sounds like "Just When You're Thinkin' Things Over". Still, both bands
are ace so it doesn't matter.

There's a U.S.-only CD called The Charlatans vs. The Chemical Brothers,
with a Nine Acre Court remix, a couple of Toothache remixes, and
something else (something from Exit P. D.) that I can't remember at the
