I'm a bit ashamed to admit this, but I have never seen a Slowdive video ever (well, perhaps 1/2 of Morningrise once)! Does anyone have them recorded, and would be willing to make a trade? My vcr can handle NTSC, though only in black/white, so I would prefer PAL, if someone have them in that format? //Erik (chief@lysator.liu.se) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Aug 1996 00:12:39 +0200 (MET DST) From: chief@lysator.liu.se Subject: The best autumn in years! I just have to express my joy here - this autumn will be the *best* damn autumn in years! _Curve_ back together again with a single and an album and a tour! _The Charlatans_ release a single in about a week and an album later this year, _Mojave 3_ comes to Sweden and will release a couple of singles this year with an album to be released in March next year, _Catherine Wheel_ release a b-side compilation album... Now lets just hope that we'll see Verve (Superstar or whatever they call themselves these days) coming out with some new stuff, Adorable get back together again, Ride realise their mistake and do the same, My Bloody Valentine release that album, and Slowdive release their played, but never released songs. Then I would seriously believe I had died and gone to heaven! Rachel recently sent some e-mail regarding My Bloody Valentine which she thought would be interesting to all of us (and it sure is!) as well as some more info regarding their contact address (with all of them moving house at the moment). Well, here it is [edited]: * Date: 15 Aug 96 21:00:43 EDT * From: Rachel Goswell * Subject: MBV & JAMC * * Just thought I would forward some gossip about MBV that I'm sure many people * will be interested to hear about! * * I went to see The Divine Comedy on saturday, and Kevin Shields was there. I * haven't seen him literally for three years, so I was quite surprised! I asked * him what is happening and he said that Debbie & Colm are no longer involved * in the band and it's just him and Belinda. * * They have had two advances from Island and have to deliver some songs by * November; he said he hasn't really written anything yet! So that should be * interesting. The last time I saw him he said the same thing. So 3 years on, * he hasn't got any further....I know they've had trouble with the studio they * built in their house as the electricity bills were astronomical, so he said * it took quite a long time to sort that out. * * There you go, that's it. I told him I'd post a message on the net, and that * there are still people waiting. He found that quite hard to believe! * * I just recently moved home (this doesn't affect our PO Box address), and I * saw William Reid in a local shop! Wonders will never cease......... * * Regards, * Rachel. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Aug 1996 07:03:09 -0400 From: larry@interlog.com (mondegreen) Subject: Re: More from Rachel! >* Date: 15 Aug 96 21:00:43 EDT >* From: Rachel Goswell >* Subject: MBV & JAMC >* >* Just thought I would forward some gossip about MBV that I'm sure many people >* will be interested to hear about! >* >* I went to see The Divine Comedy on saturday, and Kevin Shields was there. I agree - it is rather wonderful! I just picked it up about a month ago through mailorder - expensive, but well worth it! Blue Skied an' Clear is a WONDERFUL song! My favorite off the album! But for anyone who hasn't gotten it, don't hesitate to pick it up! I also have a question - I have seen in vinyl ink some used copies of 3 EPs - the Slowdive EP, the Morningrise EP and one other I forgot the name of. Does anyone know what one I am talking about? It's probably the other one which comprises Blue Day. Also, Is Avalyn 2 only available on the Slowdive EP? Does anyone have a bunch of rarities they would like to tape? I have Blue Day, but understand that all the tracks from the EPs are not on there. I also have the Sunday flexi, Pygmalion, Just For a Day, and Souvlaki. I mean there really isn't too much out there (unfortunately) and everything was pretty easy to find if you bought it when it was released. I wouldn't mind taping all of it if the following conditions are met. 1. Someone (probably Erik) asks Rachel what she thinks about it. There is no way I'd even consider doing it if she didn't like the idea, and neither should anyone else. 2. Someone besides me organizes everything. I did something similar for another list and ended up spending hours just getting a list of people together and working out the details. I don't want to go through that again. 3. Umm, can't think of anything else. If this happens, it would be nice if I didn't have to pay for the tape or postage since i wouldn't be getting anything for it and I'm not a rich guy. ...or someone else who has all the stuff and has a lot of time on his/her hands could take care of all of this. 'avalyn 2' is only on the 'slowdive' e.p. and 'blue day' doesn't contain 'golden hair' (a syd barrett cover) off the 'holding our breath' e.p. anyhow, please tell me how slowdive's flexi (on sunday records) sounds! i think it contains 'beach song' and one or two other songs that escape my mind presently. warmest regards. > alwyn. ------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 26 Aug 1996 09:22:15 -0400 (EDT) From: Claire De Leon! It's called roundabout records and i can get you the address if you would like it. i have their catalog and unfortunately the shipping is like $4 for any size order or something. but they have lots of stuff worth checking out anyway. Those of you who sent in your interest-requests the first time do not have to do it again. I'm only posting it again because the list has a whole bunch of new subscribers. Here's the info again: I Am The Elephant and U R The Mouse Film I have recently received information from the director (Forest Wise) about the film "I Am The Elephant and U R The Mouse" and the possibility of ordering the film (on NTSC video tape). I mentioned that he might find that there are a bunch of people that would like to buy it on this mailing list, and he liked the idea. This would be the director's cut (and not the shorter one to be released later) which includes all the Slowdive songs written for it as well. Here's where you can help - Forest wanted to know how many (roughly) on the list would be interested in ordering the Director's Cut of the film and how many of those who want it in NTSC format and how many would want it in PAL format ( If enough people requests PAL format, he is willing to make copies in that format as well ). The price he mentioned would be about US $40.00 (which includes shipping and handling), though it might be lower depending on the amount of interested people. * So, if you are interested - please let me know by sending e-mail to me at: chief@lysator.liu.se PLEASE NOTE: that by saying that you are interested, you are NOT automatically saying that you _will buy_ a copy in the end. Forest just want to get a rough estimate on how many that are interested, that's all. Another interesting piece of information regarding the company that lies behind the film (and the new one to be made mentioned earlier) is that Neil Halstead is a part of the company! //Erik Soderstrom (chief@lysator.liu.se) ---------------------------------- End of The Avalyn Digest #1.10 ******************************
