That ain't the cover of the Ep. The real cover is excellent. It's a color treated snap shot that Alan Forrester (hammond dude) took in Cornwall (UK). The cover stars are "Smokin'" Billy Hill and Neil Halstead... and their surf boards. This was a positive review but it includes the ridiculous comments; > "But it's the music behind the lyrics that deserve attention..." --and-- > "Halstead's lyrics float in and out, more like clouds than verses." Wow. That part really annoyed me. I am a huge fan of Neil's lyrics. Have a nice day, CB ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Jul 1998 14:45:05 -0500 From: j-v Subject: (FWD) Ride Laserdisc Sorry for the mersh content, but someone asked me to let the list know, as there are Ride fans around- Taking Offers: Ride - Today Forever video on Laserdisc mainly videos from the Today Forever EP + more e-mail a.grier@juno.com for details, etc. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Jul 1998 15:09:24 -0500 From: i i e e e Subject: flying saucer attack hi, i know this has been covered before but which flying saucer attack albums can anyone recommend? i already have chorus and new lands. i think i might like new lands better. where should i go from here? oh yeah, and especially the song "up in her eyes"... its just beautiful. thanks, emily. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Jul 1998 16:25:52 -0400 (EDT) From: professor plum Subject: Re: flying saucer attack fsa fans seem to be in two camps, the song-oriented one and the droney instrumental one. for the former, get _further_, s/t (rural psychedelia), and distance. in that order. for the latter, i definitely recommend the sally free and easy e.p., the tele:funken project, and hm... you've already got the two best ones. ; e. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Jul 1998 17:57:19 EDT From: KingoGrief@aol.com Subject: Re: clarity of vision/top 40 confessions In a message dated 98-07-22 02:25:42 EDT, jp wrote: << if you look at a large number of your no-talent pop idols you could almost place them in that category... unless they married their producer (ring a few bells... anyone) >> er...shania twain? her hubby is noted producer robert john "mutt" lange, who's tweaked tracks for foreigner, def leppard, ac/dc, and, of course, the missus... which brings me to a question i'd like to throw out to you all...are there any contemporary "guilty pleasures" in your library? i ask because i happen to own the maxi-single of ms. twain's current megasmash, "you're still the one"...the melody's got some nice hooks and the 12" remix is surprisingly more interesting than your average ballad-retooled-for-the dance-floor...there's also a few other recent top 40 singles i own, and ...gulp...i've also got all 3 hanson albums (yes, even the christmas one, which i feel is their best yet)...yet, i still have room for slowdive, low, air, massive attack, etc...and yes, i do listen to those acts (and others of their ilk) more on the average...but i still have a weakness for a catchy pop tune, even if it's virtually tattooed on the commercial airwaves these days (i draw the line at natalie imbrouhaha)... so am i alone here? anyone else have anything in their cd library that would seemingly go against the grain of the "typical" slowdive fan? no profanity, please... thanx, jeff ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Jul 1998 18:56:52 -0300 From: Shaun Schmeisser Subject: Re: flying saucer attack Being a new FSA fan myself, I actually only have one album, so I'm hardly one to make a recommendation. Having said that, I highly recommend their first album (this being the one i have). It's self titled and has VHF#11, the cover is just a setting sun. Brilliant album and will most likely lead to more FSA purchases in the future... Shaun ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Jul 1998 17:05:48 -0500 From: j-v Subject: Re: I will trade whole custom cds for individual songs I'm looking for Can your CD-R drive create discs in Disc-at-Once mode, so that live recordings will be seamless and without the 2 second pauses between songs? I've got a cool MBV live bootleg CD you might like... It's a soundboard quality recording of MBV in Vancouver, July '92.... E-mail if interested... john ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Jul 1998 20:40:03 -0500 From: Dave Wasser Subject: Speaking of Texas How many people on the list live in Texas? I live in historic Bryan/College Station. We should have a get-together where people on the list in Texas can meet each other. Maybe in Austin? What do you think? If you're interested, e-mail me privately at DaveBrett@email.msn.com We tried something like that on the Cocteau Twins mailing list, and it went very well. We had a big ole' shoegazzin' hoedown!
