From: Riouxs@aol.com Return-path: Subject: His Name is Hi-Fidelity from Fort Lake. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Jun 1998 20:56:26 EDT Mime-Version: 1.0 4AD new releases from rioux's records. HIS NAME IS ALIVE - Fort Lake CD/LP + 7" (4AD CAD 8009) $24.00 CD / $18.00 LP+7" DUE JUNE 22ND. This (again) is going to be a 4AD u.k. only release. His name is Alive, who began many years ago doing experimenting w/ etherealism, then continued w/ a sound derivative of late 60's a.m. pop radio found in their more recent releases, now are expanding into the opaque and vague area of rock. Warren Defever (and others) maintenance of atmosphere and originality is unrivaled regardless of what influences appear on each recording. The bonus 7" included w/ the LP (heavy gram vinyl) includes 3 extra tracks, "woodstock", "swan song", & "last train". These tracks are supposedly on the CD as well. THEIVERY CORPORATION - Sounds from the theivery hi-fi CD (4AD CAD 8006) $20.00 Formed in 1992 as the production team of Rob Garza & Eric Hilton. Some tracks here from out-of-print 12"s (Shaolin Satellite, The Foudation etc.) plus tracks not found anywhere else. Sometimes there's a hint of drum-n-bass, sometimes dubby, a bit of lounge, always unexpected. This blissful taste of slippery beats and magical sound tend to engulf the listener. The u.k. release has a few tracks not found on the u.s. domestic issue below (but leaves off a few as well...naturally). THEIVERY CORPORATION - Sounds from the theivery hi-fi CD (Eighteenth street lounge ESL 5 CD) $12.50 Domestic u.s. issue. Same as above but w/o the u.k. extras. Does contain the excellent track "manha" that the u.k. lacks. June 29th sees the release of : MOJAVE 3 - Who do you love? cds (4AD BAD 8011 CD) $9.25 TAKING PRE-ORDERS NOW. Long awaited single from the upcoming Mojave 3 album set for an August release. ------------------------ Ordering info. -- Drop me an e-mail or call (330) 305-9447 and leave a message, or write to us at the address below with the titles that you want. Coefficient Greer" Subject: while we're reminiscing the slowdive moment i cant seem to get out of right now, and thats fine with me, is every time i put on my live boot tape with Morningrise on it. it has that sort of effect on me that douglas adams wrote about a character's smile once, they would look at you and "it seemed to be composed of all the worst things life could do to you, but which when he briefly reassembled them in that particular order on his face made you suddenly feel ' Oh. Well thats all right then.' " even when im entangled in the thickest of traffic, that song makes me feel like im gliding. whenever im out doing something, when i have to get in my car and go home, its almost like i have to put that on to punctuate the end of the night. after i had Bardo Pond blow my mind into tiny pieces last thursday, that was the first thing i could bear to listen to. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Jun 1998 03:53:43 EDT From: Lull45@aol.com Subject: Another message about Searching for the Set Cheers, Hey people, I've posted this message about 2 or 3 times wondering and i'll so it again. I'm looking for a link or links to The American Analog Set. If anyone can help me out, please oh please email them to me. Also i was wondering about if i can still get these 2 slowdive collections Slowdive EP Holding Our Breath EP Outside Your Room EP I need these to complete my set. As for my 2 pence on the difference of Shoegaze and Dreampop...i think dreampop is more of an upbeat style to Shoegaze (i.e. Blow and Pale Saints) as for shoegaze, its more spacious and dreamy than poppy. Thanks. All those at Lull45 and solarSpace ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Jun 1998 03:45:12 -0500 From: Agent Cooper Subject: Country Rain MP3 Hmmm, well I believe Country Rain was the last song that was due for my site. Creation Records put out a compilation CD called "Sorted, Snorted And Sported". It has a picture negative of a pig with a rather elaborate border. Other songs on this CD are "Honeypower" by MBV, Higher Than The Sun by the Scream Team as well as Swervedriver's "Laze It Up". Interestingly, inside the sleeve it lists most of the records and singles on Creation's label with the album "Loveless" by MBV being listed with a "TBA" (To Be Announced). It was released circa 1991. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Jun 1998 11:41:57 -0500 (CDT) From: cory <1cc5776@unixstew.tstc.edu> Subject: Re: Country Rain... Has anyone else heard it?? If not, then it's essential listening, IMO. Sounds rather like Moose's first three EP's (has the same kind of boppy shoegazey sort of feel to it) mixed in with some 60's pop sensibilites al-la Jefferson Aeroplane (for want of a better comparison) as well as a bit of a folky sort of feel (a bit like Red House Painters). To top it all off they add a lot of weird noises all over the place giving a very textured, colourful and complete sonic soundscape rather like One Dove mixed in with insane, nonsense lyrics of They Might Be Giants. In all, great stuff. I think a lot of people on this list would get into them. Despite the rather mixed bag of descriptions I gave, they sound more like Moose than anything else. Highly recommended. Everyone go and buy a copy now!!! One of my favorite bands. I believe they were started by MBV Kevin's little brother Jimi, who left after the first album (called "Shoulder Voices") and went on to form Lotus Crown, who are a lot like Rollerskate skinny. Lotus Crown's album "Chokin' on the Jokes" is very similar to Horsedrawn Wishes, I think. Man, I love Horsedrawn Wishes! One of my fave albums of all time. Finally got Colfax Abbey's 'Drop' today. What a great album! I've been looking for a band that sounded just like this for a long time... Any word on the Slowie boxed set? Anyone get anything from Ryko? I emailed but never got a response. Erm, yes, WHAT-EVER and 'shoegaze' also happens to be a really lame creation of some reactionary British journalist that felt he had to slag kids doing this, new, 'crazy', effects-heavy music .... all bollocks if ya ask me! :-) that's my two pence! best, Michael PS anyone seen Meriel Barham lately [anybody here from the LEEDS area??] ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Jun 1998 08:34:45 +0000 From: "wade@tapehouse.com" Subject: Secret Shine I recently got a hold of three secret shine albums...Man, that is some really good stuff.
