(no slowdive content) hello, firstly, i was pissed that you assumed that the cd was yours. we had no agreement. i did not promise the cd to you. secondly, you were dilly dallying around over the money order thing. it was a simple request... ten english pounds in cash. thirdly, i wanted it sorted out as soon as possible. in case you cant remember, the cd is still in the shop. so i wanted all of this sorted out so that i could go and get the cd for someone. end of story. if no one can give a definite answer, then i cant get to the shop to get it and it'll probably be gone and that's that. fourthly, i had a shitload of replies from people assuming that they were the first person and thus the cd was theirs. so i told EVERYONE. the first person to sort it so that they can send me ten pounds cash gets the cd. simple. i cant use a money order. full stop. it is no use to me. fifthly, i was doing this as a favour to some fellow slowdive fans who might be after the single and whom i dont believe should have to pay $50 for a single. i dont expect to be bombarded with replies offering me $10 american, which as all the english people on the list will know is only worth £6. the cd is £7 in the shop. and £3 to send. likewise us currency is no use to me as i have to convert it, which costs a fortune here. and bingo! i am out of pocket. which is not the aim of the exercise. i saw the cd in a shop for £7 so i figured that it was ok to buy it and pass it on to someone on the list for £7 and the £3 postage. which is £10. not $10. or $15. or $17. or a £10 IMO. its £10 cash. and thats what i said... sixthly (is that correct grammar), i think you are just pissed cause you didnt get it. seventhly (even worse grammar), i see a lot of slowdive stuff in the shops here in london. i wont bother doing this again. IT IS TOO MUCH HASSLE!!! sorry to yell at you, but i just got sick to death of answering emails. i am at work and very busy and dont have time to go over the same point over and over again. remember i was not buying this cd to make money on. i was buying it as a favour to someone on the list. the first person who could send me the money that it cost me. simple. anyone else want to flame me now? | this list seems to be frequented by quite a few assholes these days. | anyway, i'm just posting this in the interest of anyone who is trying to get | that copy of _outside your room_ from this guy. it was my understanding | that i was the first one in line, and all i did was ask if it would be | alright to send u.s.$ (as the banks here do their best to rip people off by | charging ridiculous surcharges to issue checks in foreign currency, and most | of them do not do direct currency exchanges). this is the response i got. | i've bought things from people via the 'net dozens of times and have never | encountered such an attitude. all of you can hurl obscenities at certain | individuals who want $50 for a copy of _holding our breath_ until you're | blue in the face; i for one would much rather pay the fucking $50 and at | least get courteous treatment then deal with a shithead like this. good | luck to anyone who decides to send him the cash; hopefully he'll keep his | end of the bargain. All I did was *ask* them when they played here, because no one else had, and everyone was saying they were responsible, so I wanted to know the truth. The truth is that they *did* have something to do with Slowdive being signed to Creation. When I asked them they said they had heard something about it, but couldn't remember if they did or not. Their explanation at the end of the night was that it was probably their manager who put the demo in Mr. Creation's hands, so they were in turn credited for it in the end. I can think of several reasons why they don't admit to it though, but I won't go into that discussion here. It's enough of that on the Curve list at the moment. Besides, Rachel can probably tell the real story. Right Rachel? You can use the list to say that "hey all who sent me mail about the Slowdive thingie - it's already gone" which would have saved you the trouble of replying to all the e-mails but one - ie. the first who mailed you about it. And, a simple "Sorry, but $10 doesn't cover it. £10 is about US $13.00 and the freight will probably be more like $5 to the US" reply is a lot better than telling someone to go blow a flagpole. But who am I to tell anyone about manners, right? //Erik ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Apr 1998 15:28:39 PDT From: "Pearson Greer" Subject: 5/4 and spiritualized about those who'd slag Spiritualized... i USED to think that as much as i loved Spiritualized, i still had the complaint that Jason's lyrics were completely devoid of meaning- or that he didnt really feel them, for whatever reason- but i've really reevaluated that opinion in the last year- maybe i'm a sap but the Ladies and Germs album seems to really be from the heart, Broken Heart of course, but now i go back and think of All My Tears from Pure Phase, and some of the slower material from LGM as well. generally on the whole, i know why i always loved Spiritualized (and a lot of other bands for the same reason)- the overall emotional effect is one that for me at least of a emotion thats not easily described- its not just a happy or sad or euphoric one- a lot of the time one doesn't know HOW they feel, just that they DO feel- and theyre great at capturing that. having said that- when i knew for sure i felt broken hearted, Spiritualized definitely soothed. im glad someone else besides me counts Ordeal in 5/4 too, my friend thats a music major and loves to make everything harder than it really is counted it somehow in 2. happy cos he just found Disco Inferno's "DI Go Pop" for 5 bucks, Pearson ------------------------------ End of Avalyn Digest Vol.98 #65 ********************************
