But all of the sudden news from the supplier said that they are deleted(I knew they were deleted) and now not available, now the funny thing is this was a week later from the first lot turning up and only six months ago so go work that one out. The best news is I only payed todays standard ep prices sorry to mention that but I'm not trying to hurt everyone on this list ,all I'm going to say is if you can't get the bootleg for free don't get it I'd rather a taped copy than pay someone great amounts for something that is avaiable on older ep's $20 - $25 dollars US is to much unless it is real rare I would even consider it . Thanks Michael ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Apr 1998 15:55:09 +0100 From: davebp@postmaster.co.uk Subject: music desparation yeah, i think its kinda funny that everyone is going on and on about how they wouldn't pay that much really for rarities. why is it so cool to play down how much effort and expense you have gone to in building up an awesome cd collection? everyone loves to say: "yeah i got it when it came out...", "i paid the original ep price", and all that. no one ever says, "yeah, it took me years to build up this cd collection and a shitload of my time money and effort". or "i paid $200 for this cd...". the value of an object is always what somone is willing to pay for it. so if someone didn't know about a band a few years ago when they were starting out and didn't get something then, its really up to them to decide how much they want to pay for it, not for us to say "i got it when it came out", "i paid regular ep price for it...", etc. i dunno if all this makes sense. by all means help each other out in finding stuff you want but dont keep saying "yeah i got it 35 years ago and the band paid me to take it"... that gives you the shits if you are the guy that doesn't have it. so here's my confession: i have spent the last 9 years building up my cd collection. it has cost me time, money, effort and half the space in my bedroom. i think its a pretty nice collection, but there is still stuff i want. and there is nothing i wouldn't pay to get that stuff. i dont really care what it cost when it came out, i only care that what i am prepared to pay for it is what the seller wants for it and at the end of the day i get my goodies. so yeah, after all this, flame away... im expecting some fireworks and third degree burns... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 07 Apr 1998 10:27:17 -0500 From: John Van Subject: Re: CURVE POSTERS Crios@dminet.davidson-marketing.com wrote: > I just went to a Curve show last night at the Doubledoor in Chicago... It mentions everything from Eno to Slowdive, to MBV to the Byrds. I thought it was interesting as they described drug users as "heads" and the music identified as "head rock." Anyone who saw the slowdive poetic frenzy video might remember Neil Halstead describing slowdive as "head" music. Heh heh, well - the average Garbage fan has probably not heard Curve yet, and when they do, they'll think they're a rip-off. Sad, but luckily there's history and a catalog to surprise them with. ;) No no, don't get me wrong - I do like Garbage, but their latest single is just too close for comfort.. About radio play - Garbage is getting all the radio play here in Sweden with their new single. I even wrote to the MD of the swedish national radio the other day asking why they play Garbage every second hour and I still haven't heard them play one single song from Curve's new album. No reply (of course). They did play some Curve songs back around 93, but not many, and not often. Don't know what they have against them. //Erik ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Apr 1998 15:12:50 EDT From: Rephlex00 Subject: Re: music desparation i agree totally, i think people are often too keen to make out they were "the first in the scene" and all that crap, i have paid out loads for the stupedest things but i have been lucky, i usually just be persistant and stuff falls into my lap! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Apr 1998 19:55:54 +0100 From: davebp@postmaster.co.uk Subject: mojave3 online hey, if anyone is interested, mojave3's recent gig in texas is now online at: http://www.rollingstone.com/sections/performance/text/vvarchives.asp (i think) i guess you all already know, but i guess that means i'mm telling you again anyway... dave ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Apr 1998 17:05:44 +0200 From: "LOSING TODAY" Subject: slowdive I'm looking for Slowdive bootlegs( including unreleased songs) and for "Glass Arcade" cd (Sarah comp including Eternal, a pre-slowdive band) i've the following Slowdive items to trade : SLOWDIVE 12" HOLDING OUR BREATH 12" ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Apr 1998 14:35:15 -0500 (CDT) From: Steven Sheets Subject: Re: CURVE POSTERS On Tue, 7 Apr 1998 davebp@postmaster.co.uk wrote: >>> I just went to a Curve show last night at the Doubledoor in Chicago... >>> They were REALLY good... Rachel said they broadcasted it live on the web (afterwards - she said she would have let us all know before it happened but they didn't know themselves until it was too late to grab a 'puter and a keyboard somewhere to mail the news off) but that they were going to add it to their archives sooner or later as well. For those of you who couldnt hear the RealAudio.... I also included links to each individual song in Quicktime format....They are still compressed so they dont sound 100%, and the files sizes are pretty huge....but the new versions of Quicktime are streaming so hopefully it will work for most of you... I've sent a few of these songs to the list before, but now I've added some new ones to the demo and did a little work on the old ones as well.... the project is called "snowmobile"..... it is encoded in RealAudio....40 kbps...Stereo ISDN....(obviosly sound quality has suffered but I think it still sounds pretty decent) (and it is on my work site...so dont publicize it too much :) Oh...one more thing...try to listen loud with headphones! I spent a lot of time doing some panning effects..... so anyway, tell me what you think! the whole thing is about 42 minutes long and can be accessed from here: http://www.news.com/Beta/kwood/snow/snowmobile.ram you can also access it by each song.... 1. Intro to Dusk (http://www.news.com/Beta/kwood/snow/intro.ram): or (http://www.news.com/Beta/kwood/snow/intro.mov) ---this is basically a little intro of samples/ambient noises/and a beat that comes in..... 2. This Feeling (http://www.news.com/Beta/kwood/snow/thisfeeling.ram) or (http://www.news.com/Beta/kwood/snow/thisfeeling.mov) ---a guitar/overdriven organ based song.... 3. Deeper (http://www.news.com/Beta/kwood/snow/deeper.ram) or (http://www.news.com/Beta/kwood/snow/deeper.mov) ---based purely on samples.... a slower beat with a very deep dub feel...layering sounds as it progresses... 4. Glazed (http://www.news.com/Beta/kwood/snow/glazed.ram) or (http://www.news.com/Beta/kwood/snow/glazed.mov) ---a little beat interval, then a long quiet guitar intro...then the full song with a poppier feel...consisting mainly of guitar, drums, synth, vocals... 5. Phosphorous (http://www.news.com/Beta/kwood/snow/phosphorous.ram) or (http://www.news.com/Beta/kwood/snow/phosphorous.mov) ---electronic song with drum loops, big sweeping synths, etc....with a more ambient section in the middle.... 6. I'll Smile (http://www.news.com/Beta/kwood/snow/smile.ram) or (http://www.news.com/Beta/kwood/snow/smile.mov) ---ambient guitarwash with vocals..... 7. Broken Brain (http://www.news.com/Beta/kwood/snow/broken.ram) or (http://www.news.com/Beta/kwood/snow/broken.mov) ---drone song with 303 sequences and beats...thrown through effects 8. Daydreaming (http://www.news.com/Beta/kwood/snow/daydreaming.ram) or (http://www.news.com/Beta/kwood/snow/daydreaming.mov) ---consists of a frantic beat, droney organs, backwards samples, and vocals a la Neil Halstead... thanks! -kevin Kevin Wood ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Apr 1998 18:41:05 -0500 From: timethief@juno.com (Luis B. Get a DAT, recording mini-disc, 4-track, or some other recording device. 2. Get on a fast connection, like a university T1 or your best friend's ISDN connection at home. ;-) 3. Connect a cable from the output of your audio output (Mac) or soundcard (PC) to the input on your recording device. 4. Record the show. The Mojave 3 recording is in mono, and the site is sometimes laggy, so you'll get a fair recording. I've recorded a few shows this way for my own pleasure (no bootlegging here... no one would buy a crappy .ra bootleg anyway).
