Primal Music brings great news about Baxter (ex-Salt, Grand Tone Music's
Nina Ramsby, Eclectic Bob guys Ricky Tillblad and Carl Herlofsson) in the
US. The band's label over there, Maverick, sent out promo copies of the
forthcoming self-titled album to about 300 college radio stations earlier
this summer, and the results are stunning (chart placing):

In Sweden, the release dates are set: The single "I Can't See Why"
(PRIMCDS002) will be released on August 17th, and the self-titled

A new Bear Quartet (AWSF) CDEP called "Human Enough" was released
earlier this summer. The title song is said to be a first taste
of what the band's forthcoming new album "Personality Crisis",

*Sahara Hotnights in the heat again

A West Side Fabrication-signed Sahara Hotnights released a new single
called "Nothing Yet" on June 29th. The single is a result of rehearsing
and writing new songs the first half of 1998. The band will spend the
second half in the recording studio as well, and this time the result
will be their yet untitled debut album, to be released late 1998 or
early 1999. A soundclip from the single is available on the label's

Are you going to the Stockholm Water Festival? Are you interested in
a three hour live drum'n'bass special with Primal Music artists and
bands? Then you better read on! Friday August 14th between 10pm and
1am (22.00 - 01.00) is the time, Spegelpalatset - Riksplan is the
place and Yoga, Perphane, Eclectic Bob and Darchives are the artists
and bands performing. The entrance fee is taken care of if you have
the Water Passport (Vattenpasset).

*Rocknation - new compilation from Blekingska

If you have been following the news here on Sin you have probably
heard of (and hopefully seen as well) the exclusive records put out
by the Blekingska Nationen in Lund. To this date two promo demo
compilation CDEPs, one promo CDEP with (among others) The Cardigans
and Eggstone, and one compilation CD called "Popnation". Now it is
time for the second, but just as exclusive, compilation CD. The
record is going under the name "Rocknation". The name change
(compilation series usually keep the name but add a number or
subtitle, right?) reflects the change in music in general at
the Nation's venue "Klubb Indigo" the last two years. In 1996
when "Popnation" was released, pop was what was played, pop bands
were playing, and pop popped from the speakers and whatnot. These
days, there is a healthy mix of rock and pop, heading towards a
wider audience and music taste. Bands included on the compilation
have played, or will play this autumn, at the Nation's venue.
A mix of known and unknown bands, with preliminaries Brainpool,
Stereo Explosion, Popsicle, Robot, Bugsquad and Broder Daniel
in the front line. The album is released on their own label and
will be distributed by Border or MD. The release is set to
"some time in September/October".

So it's August, we've had a full month vacation, and thankfully, the
news has been pretty scarce and slow in July, with the exception of
festival updates and changes. Which brings us directly into the first
August Festival Update. That's right, the summer's not over yet! :-)

Some good places to put up that sort of ads would be the Sound Pollution
record store in Gamla Stan, and the Kafe 44 punk/anarchist cafe by
Tjaerhovsplan.
For meeting people into music I recommend spending some time on the
Stockholm southside ("Soeder")... cafes like String and Blaa Lotus,
record stores like Pet Sounds and Andreas Skivor, bars like Kvarnen,
Folkhemmet, Hannas, or Pelikan.

Subject: Emmaboda & Ettnollett
This weekend it's time for the Emmaboda Festival and I thought I should
inform those of you that are going there that there are events other than
those on the regular festival schedule. On saturday, the fanzine Ettnollett
will, together with the festival organizers, arrange a small "happening".
Everyone who visits the festival are welcome to visit this. The details are
not 100 % certain yet, but this is what is scheduled right now (if I know
of any changes before I leave for the festival on friday morning, I'll let
you know):
TIME: Saturday, August 8th, at about 10:00 in the morning
PLACE: Well, I am not very familiar with the area but there is supposed to
be some kind of bar inside the festival area and that's where it's at.
LIVE BANDS: Ettnollett has invited FINT TILLSAMMANS, MONOSTAR and SPEAKER
BITE ME to do unplugged gigs. The Emmaboda festival organizers have invited
SIDESHOW BOB and LOOSEGOATS, also for unplugged gigs.
ENTRANCE FEE: 20 SEK, which includes live bands, coffee, something small
(but tasty) to eat and a copy of the latest issue of Ettnollett (issue no
20+9 will *probably* be finished by then - articles about, among others,
David Gedge, PAPAS FRITAS, SMARTALEC, KOMEDA, SPEAKER BITE ME, LOOPTROOP
and Mark O'Sullivan + reviews and opinions about the Hultsfred Festival).
And, like I said, you are all very welcome!

Subject: SOOL in Gothenburg tomorrow cancelled!
I just got a message, from Patrik Herrstrom, about a cancelled event in
Gothenburg tomorrow, August 5th.
There was, obviously, supposed to be a concert with SOUNDTRACK OF OUR
LIVES, SPEED OF SOUND ENTERPRISE, Hab, DJ Abe and DJ Ste van B. It was
supposed to be held at Kajskjul 8. This event is cancelled because of
illness! It will take place later in the autumn instead, but no new date or
venue are decided yet. Those who had bought tickets for tomorrow can return
them at Bengans Biljettservice and get their money back.

Could it be the first proper Swedish football record? Well we'd place our
money on that it'll be one of the best ones anyway. The speaker at Malmo
stadion has been making false promises all Spring, but now it's finally
here: "Mama take me home to Malmo". A unique collection of songs inspired
by football and the team in our hearts: Malmo FF.
The record features a wide rooster of artists, and is the soundtrack to a
forthcoming movie about the players and the fans, the love and addiction,
surrounding Malmo FF. The movie, entitled "Bladarar" opens on cinema in
December, and will also be available on video in 1999. All tracks on the

this was posted on the indie pop list and I figured there may be a few
folks out there interested in reading this tid bit.
"stevie jackson (guitarist with belle and sebastian) caused a coup by
deciding to auction his copy of 'tigermilk' for the Gartnavel Hospital
in Glasgow. All the proceeds from the auction will be donated to the
Infectious Diseases Unit where there is a fund toward building a
relaxation garden for the patients.
this copy of tigermilk is signed by all eight members of the band and
is in mint condition. tigermilk is belle and sebastian's first album
and was limited to 1,000 copies on vinyl only when it was released in
early 1996 as part of a music course run by stow college in glasgow.
the auction ran for two weeks in in the summer of 1998 and closed at
UKœ 810 on 8th august."
