The world of music changes daily, so it is not surprising that the band "treb.sound.sys", included in the news last week, has changed name to "sadovaja soundsystem" this week. Their homepage is still http://hem1.passagen.se/phillyg/ - and it has also been somewhat updated today. //Erik ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 May 1998 20:28:45 +0200 From: Erik Soderstrom Subject: [NEWS] Free Movement of Drinks at Roskilde again Free Movement of Drinks at Roskilde again ----------------------------------------- Last year, the visitors of the Roskilde Festival in Denmark were surprised to find that they were no longer allowed to take their drinks (whatever it was - juice, milk, beer...) through the gates to the main festival site - something that had always been allowed before. The reason was environmental, and the whole festival site (including the camping areas) was affected. Environmentally, it was a success - more than half of the mountains of cans and non- returnables were gone, but it was not a popular rule among the festival visitors. Therefor, the festival organizers have now removed this rule - and drinks can be brought into the main festival area once again, though it has to be in one of the festival's own deposit-paid containers - ie. the way it was before the rule was enforced. "We don't run the festival to annoy people..." a spokesman for the organizers said. //Erik ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 May 1998 02:29:55 +0200 From: Erik Soderstrom Subject: [TOUR] Luger BA Tour List [26-May-98] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scandinavian Indie Luger Tour List UPDATE Scandinavian Indie May 26th, 1998 by Erik Soderstrom ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- SCANDINAVIAN: BACKFISH (S) - West Side / MNW Jun 06 Stockholm (S) Mera Hitlatar New Date BAD CASH QUARTET (S) - Telegram / Warner Jul 10 Hogsby (S) Festival New Date BREACH (S) - Burning Heart / MNW *NEW* + SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, THUMB, IGNITE, SAMIAM & BULLYRAG (the "Flying High Across The Sky" tour) Jun 02 Koln (D) Live Music Hall Jun 03 Osnabruck (D) Hyde Park Jun 04 Bremen (D) Aladin Jun 05 Hannover (D) Bad Open Air Jun 06 Saarbrucken (D) Garage Jun 07 Hamburg (D) Markthalle Jun 08 Stuttgart (D) LKA Jun 09 Nurnberg (D) Forum Jun 10 Schlachthof (D) Wiesbaden Jun 11 Munchen (D) Babylon Jun 12 Chemnitz (D) AJZ Talschock Jun 13 Berlin (D) SO 36 Jun 14 Essen (D) Zeche Carl BRODER DANIEL (S) - Dolores / MNW Jul 04 Oskarshamn (S) Park Festival New Date CAESARS PALACE (S) - Dolores / MNW May 27 Goteborg (S) Kalas & Nojesguiden fest New Date Jun 05 Sandviken (S) Parkrock New Date Aug 01 Hassleholm (S) Sommarfesten New Date Aug 22 Bagarmossen (S) Soderbyfesten New Date Aug 22 Eskilstuna (S) Sommarens Sista Suck New Date MONSTER (S) - MVG Records / MNW May 30 Koping (S) Kopingsyran New Date Jul 04 Kristianstad (S) Tivolirock New Date PETTER (S) - BMG Aug 15 Hassleholm (S) Bla - Festival New Date REFUSED (S) - Burning Heart / House Of Kicks Jun 26 Skelleftea (S) Festival New Date Jun 27 Trondheim (N) Sone 98 Festival New Date Jul 04 Ostersund (S) Storsjoyran New Date Jul 11 Arvika (S) Festival Date Changed Jul 24 Pitea (S) Pitea Dansar & Ler New Date STARMARKET (S) - Dolores / MNW Jun 10 Stockholm (S) Tanto Festival New Date WEEPING WILLOWS (S) - Grand Recordings / Virgin May 30 Uppsala (S) Katalin New Date Aug 08 Stockholm (S) Stockholm Water Festival New Date ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- NON-SCANDINAVIAN: AGNOSTIC FRONT (US) - Epitaph / Border + POWERHOUSE (US) - Blackout / House Of Kicks New Support Jun 06 Vanersborg (S) Vanerrocken CHRISTIAN DEATH (US) - Trinity / Import *NEW* May 29 Stockholm (S) Studion ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The COMPLETE Luger Tour List is posted to the mailing list now and then. Hi everybody,

I hope everything is okay with you. I have a band in Brazil called FIRST RESIST an we released our first CD-Single with three songs - Simple Lesson, Wedding Gifts and Grey - last February. We made this CD- Single lonely without any help ( do it yourself ) and we are looking for some people, bands, labels  that can support us in Sweden, Norway, Iceland,Finland......... Here radios, labels, magazines just ignored local bands that sing in english.
Thanks.

The Stockholm party is held at Mike's Entertainment but is sadly *invite only* - sadly because the amazingly good band Barusta (Starboy) is playing there. Cool. Preceded by an accoustic number (I guess I'm just a fool) with which it just might share a melody, "Friday at Rex" is quite synthetic disco-y sounding, but the fact that JJJ still crowns at his usual lazy pace makes all the difference. I was in France when the album came out there (apparently JJJ has settled down somewhere there as well), and there were even big posters of JJ in the subways. He had a big gig the last night I was in France, but I opted to go see Ignatus play on a boat instead, not being fond of large concerts myself. (And in fact Ignatus turned out to be a hell of a performer, but that's neither here nor there). Word from the French list is that JJ has just done a cover of "Trust Me" from Disney's Jungle Book. Which has got to sound pretty weird, because I just can't imagine JJ doing it anything but sincere... Other stuff I picked up on my travels: Karkkiautomaatti: the "seikkailuun" single is really nice, can't believe how twee this guy's voice is (the music is on the weird side). Everyone in Finland told me that the lyrics are really sweet and lovely. The second track starts off sounding rock and roll and then turns into a very bubbly instrumental with some keyboards which force me to chirp along against my will. I only have one question: Is the album out yet? Aavikko "Derek!". On bad vugum. This record has seriously ugly artwork in livid purple and yellow. The Czech I stayed with in Stockholm ID'ed the car on the cover; presumably the picture is stolen from an old Czechoslovak ad. But the music is pretty cool. Two guys with synths and a drummer. Starts of sounding very rock but turns demented circus on us after a few seconds. The Czech dubbed it "Finland's answer to Doktor Kosmos." Minus the vocals, of course. And yes, I like it. Picked up that old Lill Lindfors album, if nothing else, just because it looks so great. The new Komeda album has to be a contender for the album of the year chez RK. That's all. Greetings, My fault, I'm afraid, but the Latvian chain CD showed up at my flat some time while I was carousing around Europe, so I found it when I got back to the States. Thankfully, I was the last on the North American segment of its travels. Mo in Oxford is next up and last on the list. I'll post it tomorrow if I don't manage to do it today. Thanks to Roberts for compiling it. On an aside, I can't help but remark that all the bands who have two tracks on the disc seem to have one which is much "harder" than the other. Drastically so, generally. So much that I kept being wondering if these could really be the same bands. I also note that the hard tracks all come from 1996, previous years being poppier, and 1997 as well. Did Latvian noise peak in 1996? Kinda enjoy the cheesy disco from Yaputhma Sound System, but then I came back from Germany with an Andreas Dorau obsession, so maybe my system isn't very sound right now. About the Scan-indie lecture disc: I haven't made contact with the person it seems to have gotten stuck with, but I have had word from a friend of a friend of said person who promises to bust his knee-caps if he doesn't mail it pronto. Sounds interesting, especially the fact that they will not do a "Kent" (i.e. just translate their Swedish lyrics into English). Here it comes: Bergman Rock: Bob Hunds new side-project The great Swedish band Bob Hund has finally decided on a name for their side-project, namely Bergman Rock (previlsly there has been rumours about it being called International Bob). Bergman Rock will, in contrast to Bob Hund, have lyrics in English, and will probably sign with an international label. Silence Records will continue to release their records (as both Bob Hund and Bergman Rock) in Sweden. At this moment Bergman Rock has four finished songs. And the band wants to once again stress that Bergman Rocks songs are no translations of Bob Hunds. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 May 1998 12:57:41 +0200 From: Jonas S Subject: festival in tanto 10/6??? hi. i heard about a festival which is supposed to take place in tanto on june 10. does anyone know anything about this? what bands are playing? j ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 May 1998 14:13:07 +0200 From: j.sundstrom@ekuc.se (Jan Sundstrom) Subject: Re: festival in tanto 10/6??? "Yks Kaks Motocross" is definately one of their best songs. i can only describe it as Sami did at their gig last friday: "here's a Roope & the Rockets style psychedelia song"... before they used to sometimes sound dangerously close to pale blue trousers in a room with wall-to-wall carpeting and ladies with small pink handbags, but now they've really learned to boogie. Our computer has been f-d up again, but now it's back on track. And so is Fidget! It's now official about Fidget getting in to the pop family of Silence (featuring Bob Hund and Fint Tillsammans). The new record will be recorded in Koppom in aug/sep, hopefully. One of their new songs "Out of the blue" can be heard at a coming Silence promo CD, out on Hultsfred - and Silence have promised to give it away to as many nice people as possible at the festival. So be there! It is one of Fidgets best songs out of their two latest demos recorded by Kalle Gustavsson (Soundtrack of Our Lives). So long Mr Hong (a very huge but cute elephant I met a year ago) /Johanna ------------------------------ End of Scandinavian Indie Digest Vol.98 #48 ********************************************
