Dear list,
a few more days left for me to get my presentation together, and a couple
more questions are on my mind. simple ones, really:
1. Et fall & en losning - how many copies sold in Sweden (or worldwide)?
I heard a figure awhile ago, and it was considered very successful, given
the expected market size. Can anyone tell me what it was again.
2. Jay-Jay Johansen - How popular/well known is he at home? I have the
idea that he still isn't that big in Sweden, especially considering that my
copy of Whiskey was found in a bargain bin in Malmo for something like US
$3 or $4. But on the other hand, he's quite big in France. On the cover
of Les Inrockuptibles and what-not. Chatted about him with a touring
Parisian the other night, and heard that JJ gets played on MTV Europe, so
he must be a "star." Or? What's the Scandie perspective?

You could also try Living In The Past, near Bantorget. Huge sortiment of
second hand LP's, but maybe a bit expensive when it comes to good
albums.

A few months after it's release, I was told it had sold up to 7,500 copies
nationally. So I'd say about 8,000 now. Which still is bloody brilliant for
a non-mainstream release (and a "difficult" EP at that). Someone will
correct me on this if I'm up the wrong tree here

I'd say he is fairly unknown actually. But that's just my opinion, coming
from Wilmertown. Fellow Swede-opinions?

Subject: Honey Is Cool + Sodasplash gig report
Gig report!
Slowly recovering from seeing Honey Is Cool saturday night at Fritz's
Corner. Guys, you missed something!
The evening got a bad start. We didn't know what time the doors opened,
went there with a pal at 21.30 - and they didn't open til 22.00. A
bunch of very frozen indie kids were hanging around St Eriksplan at
that time.
I had tried to find out the opening hours, but no answer on their
phones [even tried multi ;-) ]. So at 22.00 we expected to just walk
straight in. But no! The moron at the door stated that this was a
members only club, and even if I was on the list, there was no way I
could bring a guest from outta town to join me.
So we hang around another 20 min or so, together with 30+ unfortunate,
who also weren't on the list. Argh! And the place was completely empty
inside.
Some girls even had faxed FC's office a few days in advance, and came
all the way from Nykoping. The guy by the door behaved like an asshole,
this really gives FC bad credit for having those stupid rules, and not
having proper instructions on what to do to get in. Come on, what's the
point in all these fancy exclusive stylishness, all the kids wanna do
is have some fun and enjoy some good music!
If HiC knew about what was going outside, I'm sure they would have
objected.
Finally, we convinced the idiot, made our way, and left the kids behind.
Sodasplash opened. Cheesy name, never heard of them before, but i was
thoroughly impressed.
Their looks was a mix of Weeping Willows, Reservoir dogs and Screaming
Trees. But the music was something else. The first name that came into
mind was Swervedriver: heavy driving bass, cool guitar licks, cowboy
style attitude. The guitarist, Patrik, is one of the most promising
I've heard.
The only thing that slightly annoyed me was the singer's unability to
go down in the register, it was far too light and poppy. Imagine a
smart laid-back Swervedriver with the snotty vocals of EMF ("You're
unbelieveable" :-P). The've gotta do something about that. Vocal
lessons?
I talked to them afterwards, they are nice people, from Borlange
(Stonecake anyone? ;-)
They just have recorded some tracks for Jimmy Fun, and showed me the
actual CD-R master.

Anyway, over to the headliners: Honey Is Cool. Gosh, I've looked
forward to this since their gig at Studion (only 50 meters away from
FC).
They went on at 00.45, and *swish* there went my chances of getting on
the last tube home :-( What's the point in playing so damn late?
They played most of the new album + four (!) new songs. I had heard one
before, the fragile, beautyful "There's no difference", from the
studion gig. Something like their first intimate lullabies.
The other new songs were, eh, "interesting". First one was a totally
manic thing: Karin and the bass player screaming like babies stung by
bees, chanting, making all kinds of noise, the guitar completely
dissonant. Made me think of Throbbing Gristle. Vocals were
unintelligible. Frightening, weird! New extremes for HiC.
Then back to "normal", the GREAT disco version of Lion with that
old-fashioned Roland sequencer (TR-505 or similar). Wow, that's a
collectors item, they say.
Summing up with the old Georgia, fine, but we all missed the songs from
the EP. No "Another Round", the only one they played was Tomato Light.
Anyway, they must have played 70 minutes or so, proving that they can
fill the slot as headline act. HiC have grown up. My top gig this year,
so far.

formed by members of Swedish indie pioneers Easy. Some time in March or April
the album will be out and it will be preceded by a single early 1998. They
have put together a mix of dance/psychedelia and pure pop. Producer is
none other than Topsteen aka Torsten Larsson who also produced Soundtack
of Our Lives and Sator for example. This might be his finest job ever. Be

Can't answer that question but I can tell you that I went to see some
friends of mine in Robot play with Wannadies in Oslo last Saturday. And
it was totally brilliant. Both bands actually. Wannadies have really
grown into being a full-on rock'n'rollband and they always make me feel
totally happy and full of lust.And the same has to go with Robot, who
finally seem to have gotten their live-act together. Now they are darn
cool.

Really! I had no idea. Is there a huge difference between their versions? I
somehow find it difficult to believe that I would use the term "beautiful"
to describe the Captain ;) .

have to say after quarrelling with a Danish prof. for a month. I don't want

Anyway, you have understood what Faccetta nera means. And it's true: arbeit
macht frei is a nazi sentence but I think it in my personal way. This is my
very way of working, when I do my homework, when I help my mother, when I
dedicate myself to my hobbies... I could never be a nazi, I'm also against
nazism but don't think that I'm with the Hebrews! Ok, if you want
explainations, ask me but don't make it so long! (Because I have been
talking about that for 1 months)

"It's A Man's World" is the song, and RW rocks like never before. The
Album is only released in the US (on Zero Hour (Swervedriver, Shallow etc.
for more see - www.zerohour.com) and will feature artists like Mike Watt,
Chris Whitley, Sex Mob and The Velvet Monkeys. The release date is set to
May 5th - two days after JB's 70th birthday.
