Wow, this is great!!! Are you putting it online?! I'm really tempted to do the works for stockholm, which really is the best record city in Sweden, whatever Gothenburg says ;-) >#2 The grand tour: He he! Excellent. This must be something like St Eriksplan in Stockholm, 20 shops within 3 min walking distance. Us Stockholmers really should do a FAQ too. Bengans has also a shop at Gothenburg Central Station, it is a lot smaller though than the one at Stigbergstorget. If you're doing the grand tour (which I admit looks a lot like the route I walk every couple of weeks) don't forget a shop called Mynt & Music (or some- thing like that) somewhere between Bengans and Skivhugget. They've got loads of records for 40 kronor (and cheaper) of course a lot of it is rubbish, but still you might find something... there's also a secondhand shop somewhere at Friggagatan but that's at the other side of the city (and I know G'burg isn't a very big city but it still a hell of a walk...) Dolores Records Drottninggatan 21 Just a small shop (and there's even a different second-hand record shop in the back of the shop) but definitely worth a visit if you like punk, they've got a great selection of (punk) fanzines as well and lovely (al- tough rather expensive) dolores records t-shirts and sweaters. they're not particularly cheap by the way.... joris gillet gillet@geocities.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jan 1998 11:14:57 +0100 From: j.sundstrom@ekuc.se (Jan Sundstrom) Subject: Re: Gbg record shops >> Gothenburg record shop guide 980119 > > but i've got some additional stuff... Many years ago (we're talking 1989-91) there was a great mailorder company in Gbg called Interzone Music. They also had a shop but i never got time to visit them. Their selection was unique: rare Kraftwerk bootlegs, stuff by Klinik, Pankow, Laibach, Borghesia etc that you couldn't find anywhere else. Also bootleg videos, posters. OK, not the scan-indie bag, but there's more to life, you know. I beileve it closed, cause i never got any more catalogues, does anybody know what happened to the guy who ran it? I miss them so much... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jan 1998 12:05:00 -0000 From: "Abbott, Daniel, ABBOTTD7" Subject: Scandinavian Indie 1997 poll All, Does anyone know when we can expect the results of the Scandinavian Indie 1997 poll, or have I somehow missed them? - Daniel ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jan 1998 12:05:00 -0000 From: "Abbott, Daniel, ABBOTTD7" Subject: Re: Gbg record shops (or Stockholm?) Please! It'd be totally great if someone could put together a big list of cool record stores in Stockholm. I was actually thinking of asking about that recently, as I'm flying over to Sverige in a week's time... I discovered St Eriksplan during the final few hours of my last Stockholm visit, three months ago, crazy! Too many record stores! Eeek! Needless to say, I had no money left later to buy myself a drink at the airport... - Daniel PS: I'm particularly interested in shops that stock excellent lesser known Swedish indie stuff, and rare 60's stuff (beat, psychedelic, just plain strange etc)... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jan 1998 13:13:52 +0100 From: Bjorn Johnson Subject: Re: CD's online... I ordered Flamin' Groovies "Flamingo" from (snip) The CD's I've heard by The Flaming Groovies sound like SHIT. By 'em on vinyl, that's a tip. Teenage head and Shake some action can be found re-released second hand on vinyl really cheap. About 30-40 SEK. I haven't seen Flamingo re-released on vinyl. I bought the original for 180 SEk a couple of years ago. It's a huge differece between the CD and the Vinyl. Maybe theres different cd-editions of The Flaming Groovies CD's, so there could be well-sounding ones. Premiere DJ is Andres Lokko, and he will play a bunch of obscure 60's and 70's soul, for example joey negro, alton ellis, johnny bristol, blaze, the abyssinians, kenny bobien, the t.s.u. tornados, beenie man, the flaming ember, ce ce rogers, betty lavette, hank ballard & the midnighters, phyllis dillon, inez foxx, jimmy lewis, vivian jackson, melba moore & roy davies jr. The program for the rest of the spring starts with Mats Nileskar (4/2), Jan Gradvall (18/2) and Motown Records 40 Years Anniversary Party (4/3). They weren't a real band, I think they a bunch of LA session guys put together by the infamous Kim Fowley, to throw together an LP to cash in on the new ('66) "psychedelic" fad... anyway, it's cool and stupid. They do some Seeds and Count Five covers and there's even an excellent freeform psychedelic "freakout" called "Blood Beat". Ha! Nice. Don't wanna get too pedantic, but were you aware that all the other Count Five releases Lester Bangs mentions in that essay are totally fictional? What a guy, he knew nothing about the band other than their first (and only) LP and then completely invented an imaginary history for them! Creative journalism indeed...! Well, they weren't scandinavian anyway, so I guess I should shut up! They were probably overloaded and couldn't cope. But a friend of mine at work had better luck and got his stuff on a mere three days. About their corporate backing, naturally they've got some major finance chewing the fat around the Boxman board room. What ever did you expect? It's good old Jan Carlzon too, known from SAS. But I have a hard time seeing how that should discourage anyone from shopping there. What might set the foreign list members off however, is that they only ship to Sweden. Yet. That might change with time. By the way, the Vibrafon web site will be up and running their own mail order in March. So you will soon be able to get all your Eggstones, Mopeds, Freewheels etc. /Henrik ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jan 1998 22:21:46 +0000 From: "johanna.hillgren" Subject: Stina Nordenstam new material Hi everyone! Just gotten back from a lovely little trip to London where I actually got to hear two songs from the Stina cover-album. And from what I've experienced so far there is a big interest in her on the list. I'm not the biggest of fans myself, but at least one of the songs I heard was very good. Unfortunately I don't remember the name of the song, but it was an old American nursery rhyme-like composition, very simple and for Stina kind of catchy. Could be her first hit (and wow you would hate her then ;-)). The second song was a version of Prince's "Purple Rain". It sounded pretty much like Stinas own material, slow with a whispering singing and a bit dim instrumentation. Something for the hardcore enthusiasts, nothing for me, really. I've read about 10 articles on Boxman since.. well, even before they opened the site, and their plan is to have a Boxman in each and every European country _and_ accept credit card orders, so they will compete with whatever's out there. Here's a cute thingie - "Bargain Finder" - it searches ten online record stores for the albums/records you specify and presents all the prices it can get, so you can compare them and go to the cheapest one: http://bf.cstar.ac.com/bf/ Should be made to include ALL online record stores, but I doubt the stores would want that.
