Hi!

i got two excellent CD's last night: "Schlager" by Green, and "Blank
Paychek" by Cloudberry Jam.

"Schlager" shows great improvement from their previous (?) EP,
"Couldn't Bear To Be Special" - the power pop aspect is still there,
but there are applying more spices and colours on this album. Perhaps
it's because of the bigger production budget or whatever... Does
anyone else think,by the way, that a couple of songs on "Schlager"
sound a bit like "Modern Life Is Rubbish" -era Blur??

I like the Cloudberry Jam album even more, because I have a soft spot
for both this kind of 'jazzy pop' style and Jennie's kind of female
voices... and they don't even sound too much like Cardigans (I was a
bit worried about this before hearing the album)!

One funny thing though is that the insert of the CD lists seventeen
songs, but my disc has only 12!! It says that tracks 14-17 'were
previously released on The Art of Being Cool EP'... What goes on??!!
Not that I'm complaining too much - there are 12 excellent tracks on
it, but this looks a bit strange to me...

So, another EP by Bear Quartet - just what the doctor ordered!! :-)

According to Petter Tiilikainen:

* third is the last ball, the 3rd release of this song, in
* another remix.

Where was it released the first time, besides this EP and "Everybody
Else" album? My guess is "It Only Takes A Flashlight..." EP,right?

Has anybody seen TBQ live lately? I was just wondering the other day
while listening to "Everybody Else" for 10000th time, how do they play
these tracks live? Do they have tens of additional musicians helping
out, or have they stripped down the songs a bit? I seem to remember
that they played at least in Stockholm around March 31st (my birthday :-)
Was anybody there?

Finally, are there people on this list who are going to
Tr{stockfestivalen this year? I'm considering about coming over, and
if I knew everybody else was going, it would make my decision much
easier - it is always nice to know there will be great people to hang
out with.

Well, what you've got there is the Japanese insert, but the Swedish CD...
The first Swedish edition of 'Blank Paycheck' simply has the wrong insert.
The designer (uhm, that's me, BTW *blush*) sent the wrong films to the printing
office... OK, so sue me!

Well, can't vouch for being great, but I am certainly thinking about
going -- and finally (ahem) losing my festival virginity. No,
it's true, I haven't actually been to one yet... Anyone got a
spare tent? Actually, do we need tents for Tr{stockfestivalen?
Anyone recommend some good mosquito repellent? ;)

Kyll{! (Or in another insignificant language: Yes!)

I don't know if I'm great, but atleast I will go to Tr{stocksfestivalen.
It's just about 130km south of Luleå, and we're not spoiled with many
events like this up here. Anybody else on the list planning to go?
I'd guess the even takes place at the same location as last year, anyone
able to confirm this?

Well, I'm gonna be there for sure... Puffin is playing, and since I
bang the drums there I don't have much choice, do I? ;-)
It's a nice event though -- if the weather's good (which could be said
for all festivals, I guess)

Well, if you really don't want to go, I can fill in for you.
That would be interesting, especially since I suddenly remember how
the music teacher in 9th grade gave up on trying to teach me how
to play the simplest beats.

I still don't get it how you're supposed to be able to synchronize
bot legs and arms... I guess I could learn as long as I didn't have
to play the bass drum and the hi hat with my feet.

Ha! Ever asked yourself why it's always the drummer who is most drunk, takes
most drugs, and has the longest hair? Maybe that's actually the key
to synchronization? Hmm... let me rephrase: does one become a drummer because
one drinks, takes drugs and has long hair? Or is it the other way around?

(Hey, I'm off topic too, so what?)

PS. I have short hair. DS

Continuing an off-topic thread...

Hmmm, I play drums too, and the other guys in my band say I'm at my
best either when I'm completely wasted or when I'm sober. Any degree of
drunkness inbetween is not optimal.

The stereotype drummer is otherwise the quiet guy who don't even know the
name of the songs he plays :)

As it seems that there are lots of people from this list going to the
festival, I guess we should arrange some kind of 'list meeting'
(gasp!) and perhaps somebody who knows the city of Skellefte} can plan
a tour and take us to see the most significant and interesting places
there...

Anyway, there's plenty of time still to discuss the details!

Yes, but mainly I do stuff for the NONS label, that is, Cloudberry Jam,
Shredhead, Ray Wonder, Komeda, and others.

I agree. They really are quite boring live. Their music is perfect at
home "in the sofa", so beautiful and relaxing, but not when played live.

However, I don't blame the group. I think it depends on the music itself.
It doesn't fit into the normal gig place - a dark, packed full of standing
people local. No, Cardigans' music is the kind of music you should sit down
and listen to, not stand up and dance to. They would probably pe perfect
at a restaurant or a pub.

Well, that was just my humble opinon.

Btw, Cardigans have released the second single from "Life". It's
"Hey, get outta my way".

Yes, "Couldn't Bear To..." was their first release. "Schlager" is their
first full length album, and IMHO probably the best Swedish album this
year, so far.

About the sound. In an interview on Radio AF here in Lund they said that
on the first record ("Couldn't...") they tried to sound the way they
thought the audience would want them to sound. When recording "Schlager"
they just wrote the kind of songs they liked themselves and didn't give
a damn about what other people would think.

Well, the only thing I can say is that it's brilliant. Check it out, if
you haven't already.

I'm not sure that you know of this, but anyway, a bit of bragging never
hurts. :) The Scandinavian Indie WWW Home Page is listed as one of the
top 10 best WWW pages in Sweden in the June issue of InterNet Guiden
Magazine. Not bad huh?

Second, the Gothenburg version of "Nojesguiden" will probably have
an article about this mailing list and it's WWW pages in an upcoming
issue - it's still not decided though, so keep them hats on. :)

Third, Brainpool, Kent and Planet Waves play here tomorrow,
so hopefully, some sort of interview/something will come out of
that.

Anyhow, have a great summer all of you on the list, and keep
it going!

(I'll be at the Roskilde festival and the Hultsfred Festival
this year. If something happens with my reservations for
the above festivals, I'll drive the 1000 kilometers to
Skelleftea, go to the Trastocksfestivalen, and drive the
  1000 kilometers back.)

It seems like the Roskilde Festival has been hit by the same syndrom as
Glastonbury: It's sold out, at least there are no more tickets to get in
Denmark. But one of my friends has been told there still should be some few

Since I won't be able to go this year, I shouldn't really care. But my friend

So if there's anyone out there who think their local "ticket-tealer" still

I'll (or at least my friend will ) would be very thankfully

   Description
   -----------
This is a weekly updated list for swedish festivals 1995. The more info
the better, so if you have additional information, corrections or news
please e-mail me (see address above). This information has been gathered
from swedish newspapers Expressen, Aftonbladet and Corren, as these are
the only papers I have access to (or can afford on a weekly basis).

   Key
   ---
    * Each new or added festival since last update is marked with a '#'
next to the festival name in the the Schedule list.
    * Festivals in this list without line-ups are marked with a '*' next
to the festival name in the Schedule list.
    * Newly deleted bands are marked with (-) after their name in the list
and will be deleted completely from the list in the next update.
    * New bands are marked with (+) after their name in the list.
