Read more about Alfred Nobel in:
Alfred Nobel invented dynamite, an explosive that is safe to handle until it is ignited. Dynamite was patented in 1867. Earlier explosives were dangerous to handle, and many people were killed or hurt in accidents. The revenues from Nobel dynamite factories in 20 countries rendered the inventor an enormous fortune. In his last will, a large sum was set off to become the Nobel Prize, awarded annually for achievements in physics, chemistry, medicine, literature and peace.
