Svend I Tveskæg (Tveskæg = Forkbeard is a pretty good translation) was king of Denmark 986-1014. He was born in ~960 as the first son of Harald Blåtand (Blåtand = Bluetooth or Blacktooth), king of Denmark 940-986. He died on Feb. 3rd 1014 in Gainsborough, England, and was buried in Roskilde, Denmark.

Svend married twice and in the first marriage became the father of Harald, king of Denmark as Harald II, 1014-1018, the father of Knud, king of Denmark as King Knud II the Great 1018-1035 and king of England as King Canute 1016-1035, and the father of Estrid, who in turn became the mother of Svend, king of Denmark as Svend II Estridsøn (Estridsøn = son of Estrid, might also be spelled "Estridsen") 1047-1074, plus a number of other children from both marriages.

The names Tveskæg (Forkbeard) and Blåtand (Blacktooth) are believed to be given these kings by their contemporaries. Such names where quite common among the vikings.
