Membership in Lysator is open to students and staff of Linköping University. The non-profit society is an independent body, separate from the departments and faculties of the university and from the students' union. Lysator is a member of Förbundet Unga Forskare (FUF), the Swedish Society of Young Scientists, and takes part in the Nordic University Computer Clubs' Conference.

There are a couple of simple steps involved in becoming a member. Follow them and you're on the road to happiness (or at least nerdvana).

  1. Pay the membership fee to our postgiro account. The current (2002-01-23) fee is , and our PG numer is . However, the first year is only so that you can see if Lysator is something for you without spending too much CSN money. Don't forget to put your name on the note. Also write that you are a new member.

When the root are creating your account, he will request some kind of confirmation of your payment. Make sure you save the receipt. It's ok to use Internet banking to pay the fee. In that case, make a screen shot of a session with your Internet bank, proving your payment.

  2. Find a root. A root is a person who can create an account for you. Sometimes you can find a root in the PUL-18.

Another way of finding a root is to attend UppLYSning. Usually, at least one root attends UppLYSning. If you don't recognize a root, talk to the person responsible for the UppLYSning.

You can also send e-mail to the roots and try to arrange a meeting.

  3. Read the paper entitled "kontovillkor" that the root gives you and agree to the terms there.

  4. Show personal ID, "kårkvitto" (or similiar) and the membership fee payment confirmation.
  5. Figure out what username you want. This is your very personal identification within Lysator, and also your mail address. It can be almost anything you want, as long as it is not used by someone else.

  6. Figure out a good password.
  7. Sit back and watch the root do his stuff.
