How about "straight-forward"? It communicates basically the same thing -- TANJUN being simple, non-complex... text: > Miki and Yuu come to live MIKI to YUU wa, RYOUSHIN ga > in the same house due to and (T) parents (S) > their parents announcing > that they're swapping IreKAe KEKKON suru to IiDAshita tame, > marriage partners. swap-marriages proposed-that because > > DOUKYO suru koto ni. > live-in-same-house of-all-things "due to their parents' announcement that" sounds more grammatically correct. That transpired years before. > Is it possible to use the word "it" instead of mentioning "letter" twice? It might make it gramatically smoother. Is there a word similar to "it" in Japanese? Only being in second year Japanese in high-school leaves me in a very disadvantageous position... I'm guessing that there really isn't a word like "it" and that in the Japanese grammer, it's ok to use the same word/object in the same sentence without the criticism of being too redundant... > p 13 > 6 > Yuu: ____ > > I was thinking that it MIKI no koto hide-- furi KATA > > didn't seem like how you about-Miki terrible way-of-pretending > > pretended to Miki was > > all that terrible... shita you ni wa MIene-- na > > so-that-did (T) not-appear > > > > tte OMOtte-ta n da kedo > > was-thinking-that (explan) but > > "I was thinking that it seemed as if you didn't do a terrible job > pretending to Miki, but..." hmm, the way Klippenstien's sentence looks, i get the idea that Yuu is a little too insensitive about Miki's feelings. It seems like you're saying that Yuu thought it was (uh....these upcoming descriptions aren't really the words I was looking for) "good" or "all right" that ginta pretended to Miki. I'm under the impression that Yuu thought that Ginta's actions wouldn't shock or hurt Miki significantly... but now that he's seen what Ginta's actions have done to Miki... Of course, if Yuu is insensitive in that way... then diregard my comments =P > > p 14 > > 1 > Yuu: [off] > > It wasn't self-willed; it JIBUN no ISHI ja nakute > > just happened that way, self 's will/volition is-not-(and) > > huh? > > nariyuki de so-- natta wake ka > > in-the-course became-like-that reason (?) > > "it wasn't intentional..." ? > Did you include the two "NATTOKU"s here? I don't think I deleted anything. ahh...I looked up ISHI and it could either mean "will/volition" or "intention," but it depends on the kanji cuz they are different. I don't know which ISHI the manga uses cuz....gosh...no manga. =( >p 40 > 4 > narration: > > Despite having a talk, HANASHI o shite-te-mo kotchi o > > she won't look my way. even-tho-is-having-a-talk this-way (O) > > > > MInai > > not-look > > "When talking, she won't..." ? "-te-mo" suggests a contrast between the two phrases. daniel lee
